THE FACE SHOP Green Natural Seed & Energy Seed Advanced Line Review

January 20, 2020

Hi guys, welcome back to my blog! Today I'll be sharing my review of THE FACE SHOP's Energy Seed Advanced Line!

It's 2020 and we all still have one thing in common: stress! Stress is super common for everybody (be it student or working adult), and being stressed can take a toll on our skin. Stress can cause dullness, excess shine, acne, roughness, sensitivity, wrinkles, dehydration and more!

To help compensate for a stressful lifestyle, THE FACE SHOP recommends their Green Natural Seed Antioxidant line + the recently added Energy Seed Serum!

Featuring antioxidant-rich seeds as the main ingredients, this line of products helps to give your complexion that extra boost it needs.

Antioxidants help the skin repair itself faster after being damaged by stress + the environment, and when infused in skincare, can help stimulate collagen production, irritation, help with wrinkles and more.

I received three products from the range to try out, and after giving them all a go, I'm here to share with you guys my thoughts about each one of them.

Formulated with THE FACE SHOP's unique Green Natural Seed formula, the Green Natural Seed Antioxidant Toner helps to relive various external stressors and helps combat extreme dryness without leaving the skin sticky.

The Energy Seed Antioxidant Hydro Serum is a watery serum which contains a powerful blend of Mexican Chia Seed Extract, Mango Seed Oil, Oat Kernel Extract, Rosemary Extract and a combination of vitamins. Together with all these antioxidants, it acts as an anti-inflammatory product that manages the skin's irritation right after cleansing it.

Finally, the Green Natural Seed Antioxidant Lotion is an emulsion type product which refreshes the skin. It contains a natural blend of skin-loving oils and extracts to soften the skin without feeling heavy, improving the skin's moisture levels & elasticity + helping to combat the first signs of ageing.

The main claims & benefits of this line are:

1. Mild effective formula
2. Lightweight and non-sticky texture
3. Relieve stress & sensitivity
4. Moisturize the skin
5. Improve elasticity
6. Reduce the first signs of ageing

Did these products do what they claimed to? Read on to find out!

These products are available both offline in any of THE FACE SHOP's stores or online on their e-store. The toner currently retails for RM99, the serum retails for RM115 while the lotion retails for RM99.

The packaging for these products are pretty simple. Since the serum is supposed to be used as a first serum, it comes in a generous 170ml bottle, way bigger than all the other green tea/seed serums currently out in the K-beauty market!

The toner and the lotion come with pumps + covers similar to the Ecotherapy Arsainte line:

Although the pump is helpful for the lotion, I do think that the toner should have been in a shake-type bottle instead like the serum. Nothing wrong with the pump, just a personal preference.

The serum first comes with a seal for hygiene purposes which can be easily removed.

I mentioned above that these products contain lots of antioxidant-rich ingredients and seeds.

THE FACE SHOP actually created a unique complex called the Green Natural Seed Formula specifically for this line with those antioxidant-rich ingredients! The formula consists of:

1. Oat - for healing, moisturizing & repairingRecommended by Time Magazine as one of the top 10 superfoods, this grain is rich in anti-oxidants which helps undo damage done by pollution, UV rays and chemicals

2. Green Oat - for strengthening, nourishing, moisturizing and anti-fatigue
A medicinal herb that is high in minerals like calcium, magnesium and zinc (which contribute to skin barrier formation)

3. Tocopherol - for anti-ageing, protecting & stabilizing
A type of Vitamin E derived from sunflower seeds which acts as a powerful antioxidant.

After analyzing the ingredients of each product on Cosdna, I found that all 3 products contain EWG green-level ingredients, meaning that they're very unlikely to irritate the skin. (Click here to see the full ingredient list: toner, serum, lotion)

The Energy Seed Antioxidant Hydro Serum, in particular, is formulated without silicone, PEG, parabens, phenoxyethanol, tar colourants, animal-derived ingredients, mineral oil and benzophenone-3!

True to their claim, all three products have a very light consistency and leave a non-sticky finish.

The toner has a watery consistency with a mild scent. It's quite cooling on the skin and absorbs really quickly. It also manages to pick up a lot of dead skin when I use it with a cotton pad to tone my face.

The serum also has a water texture but has a smoother consistency than the toner. It absorbs really quickly into the skin and is almost completely scentless. I do feel that my skin is immediately plumper/softer after applying it, but it doesn't leave any shine or tackiness.

The lotion spreads really easy and a little goes a long way. It leaves the skin with a satin-y finish once it fully absorbs and my skin feels smooth and supple after using it.

I usually use this line of products during the day because of it's comfortable lightweight texture in this order:

Cleanser - Toner - First Serum - Lotion - Sunblock

You can use it at night as well, just leave out the sunblock and add an eye-cream. For my oily skin type, I find the lotion to be enough moisture at night. If you have extremely dry skin or have more mature skin, you might want to try the cream version instead.

Overall these products are super easy to use and get straight to the point. They're pretty basic and do what they're supposed to do, with the added benefit of giving back energy and antioxidants to the skin.

1. Mild effective formula
- I would say yes, the formula is super mild. I did not get any breakouts from using this, and it even helped soothe my skin a bit after I did my laser.

2. Lightweight and non-sticky texture
- Yup! Highly recommended for the super hot Malaysian weather. Not sticky at all and quite refreshing while you're applying it.

3. Relieve stress & sensitivity
- Like I mentioned above it did help a bit with my skin post laser. I wouldn't say these products are the best in skin-soothing, but I definitely saw some soothing benefits.

4. Moisturize the skin
- Yes! It's crazy how hydrated and moisturized my skin feels with so little product. I would say the lotion is the most hydrating, while layer the serum a-la 7-skin method is really good for days when you want your skin to drink up.

5. Improve elasticity
- I did not see any immediate effects regarding elasticity~

6. Reduce the first signs of ageing
- Similar to elasticity I didn't see any immediate anti-ageing effects. However, as I previously mentioned before on my blog, anti-ageing effects aren't always immediate. I don't have any deep-set wrinkles yet, and I'm planning on keeping it that way. I would say that this line of products is a good entry into anti-ageing skincare, but that you definitely have to use a few more products to get the full anti-ageing effect if anti-ageing care is your main goal.

If you ask me what my face product is, it would be the serum. It's quite versatile and can be used for quick hydration or deep hydration (when layered). It's the most value for money green tea/seed serums out in the market too! The size to price ratio is good enough to make me want to repurchase it again, so I'm super happy that it works great with my skin.

As for the toner and the lotion, I would say they're great basic products that have an extra oomph in them to help revitalize the skin. As I mentioned above, I think this range of products is a great entry-way into anti-ageing skincare, but you definitely have to use a few more products to get the full anti-ageing effect if anti-ageing care is your main goal. If you're someone who is older, I would recommend you to find slightly richer/heavier skincare products. If you're in your teens/early + late 20s, this would be perfect for you!

And that's it for this post! I hope you guys found it informative and helpful.
