Q1. WHAT DOES FISHMEATDIE MEAN?

My name is Eros and most of my classmates in high school were Chinese. One day, my friends and I were thinking of a Chinese name for myself and ended up with 鱼肉死 (yu rou si) because its sounds like Eros. Fishmeatdie is basically the direct translation of 鱼肉死 (which is a phonetic play on my name)

Q2. WHEN DID YOU START BLOGGING?

I was introduced to the world of blogs by one of my BFFs Sammi when we were in our first year of high school (2009). I started out just blogging about random stuff that was currently happening in my life, kinda like a diary for me to rant in. A year after that (2010) I started getting into K-pop and Korean culture, so I started blogging about that too.

I blogged mostly about the music I loved throughout high school bus started posting less around 2012/2013 since I was preparing for my O-level exams. During 2014 I kinda took a break from blogging as I was a bit depressed thinking about college and my future, but around July to August I started college and started blogging again.

After starting college, I started taking an interest in things like beauty and skincare as my skin condition was quite bad. I was introduced to Hermo.my (an online cosmetics retailer) by another BFF Caryn, and I got obsessed. I bought products from them and that was when I started posting product reviews. Soon after I discovered Althea Korea, Wishtrend and more Korean beauty shopping sites and that was the start of my beauty review journey!

Q3. WHO DO YOU LOOK UP TO?

In terms of blogging, my ultimate idol would be Yutaki James.

I found out about him while I was in high school through Instagram and initially thought he was Japanese (he's Singaporean). His aesthetics were so on point and I loved his self-photography style. I think its very obvious how heavily influenced my style is by him. I could never replicate his work 100%, but I try to take inspo from him whenever I feel uninspired.

In 2013 I won a copy of his third photobook "A Flower Boy's Tale" and its one of my most treasured items. I may seem a bit obsessed, but I'm not haha. I just really look up to him and aspire to be as beautiful and as talented as he is one day.

*April 8 2017 update: Yutakis follows me back on IG now omg I can go die in peace! Click here to read all about how I met him*

Q4. WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

I am from the Philippines but I'm currently living in Malaysia. I moved to Ipoh in 2008, started college in Penang in 2014 & moved to Kuala Lumpur in 2016 for work!

Q5. DO YOU WEAR MAKEUP?

I started experimenting and wearing makeup myself in 2016, but I remember back when I was in form 3 I would watch Bubzbeauty and Michelle Phan's makeup videos daily. I was always interested in makeup and the ability to enhance your features. Nowadays more and more guys are starting to wear makeup and there are also more people online that tell people it's okay to wear makeup, no matter who you are.

From personal experience, I found wearing makeup in public to be a hard step to make. I was scared of being made fun of, but when I got over that fear and just thought "What the hell?", I felt happier. Now I'm comfortable in wearing a full face of makeup. I feel like I've overcome a part of me that was always scared of doing something that makes me feel good and doesn't affect other people at all. This pic below is from October 2018, and at this point in my makeup journey, I was all about that full coverage foundation + blinding highlight life honey!

If you're curious, my makeup idols on YouTube are Jeffree Star, PatrickStarrr, NikkieTutorials, Miles Jai, Jackie Aina and of course Bubz and Michelle. For Korean beauty Youtubers I also really like Ssinnim, Pony and Lamuqe.

Q6. DO YOU EDIT YOUR PICTURES?

Yes, I do.

Ever since I started using social media back in high school, I remember always editing and adding filters to my photos. I think this was mainly because I had a lot of acne, but after some time I found a joy in editing. I saw what could be improved and improved it. To me, editing/photoshop is nothing but digital makeup.

People may think that I'm dishonest for posting edited photos online, but I do have my limits as well. I would never blatantly lie or try to say that a bad product is good. My opinions and results are 100% honest!

Q7. WHAT DO YOU USE TO EDIT YOUR PICTURES?

I don't use Photoshop (although I would really like to learn) and I mostly use smartphone apps. My faves are MeituPic (美图秀秀) and VSCO, but some others I dabble with are Line Camera, Snapseed, Facetune & Picsart.

Q8. WHAT DO YOU USE TO TAKE YOUR PICTURES?

I used to be all about phone photography and only used my Samsung Galaxy S6. I then got more used to using DSLR and mostly used my Canon EOS 700D in Penang.

As of 2019, I now use my own 80D and my trusty 50mm for most of my shots. I've also switched to an iPhone 12.

I find that it's not about the camera, it's all about the photographer!

Q9. ARE ALL YOUR PICTURES SELF-TAKEN

No man is an island, and of course not all my pictures are taken by me. Starting from 2017, my brother Euri has been helping me take portraits/face shots and I cannot live without him now hahahaha. All product shots + creative direction + editing are still by me, but portrait/face shots are mostly taken by him. He's kinda like my super talented personal photographer hahaha.

P.S You can follow him here on his personal account & photography account.

Q10. FAVOURITE ARTISTS?

My ultimate favourite artists would have to be Girls' Generation, followed closely by EXO. These two groups were my life back in high school and although I'm not as crazy as I was back then, I still keep up with their activities and their music.

I also really like Super Junior, SHINee, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Ariana Grande, Jesse Glynne + a lot more that I can't really think of right now.

Q11. DOGS OR CATS?

I'm a dog person, but I recently got to actually touch a cat after 19 years of my life and contrary to my belief that cats would scratch me to death, they're actually not that bad.

Q.12 WHAT YOUR FAVE HAIR COLOUR?

I like dyeing my hair and using it to express my creative self. Although I tend to lean towards "normal" and "safe" colours like brown and blonde, I've dyed my hair red, orange, blue & purple, and plan on dyeing in green/other colours in the future, just so I can say I've tried every colour in the rainbow hahaha. I thought that my fave hair colour on me was light blonde, but after (being forced) to have jet black hair, I actually find that black looks quite good on me. It certainly makes me look younger haha.
