Mandarin Grill White Asparagus Menu Review

March 11, 2022

Hi guys, today I'll be sharing all about Mandarin Grill's new White Asparagus Menu at Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur.

Now this isn't my first visit to Mandarin Grill. I actually visited back in 2018 with my work colleagues for a lunch celebration:

Mandarin Grill has since then been renovated, and I love how it looks much more lush and elegant!

Along with the newly revamped space, Mandarin Grill also now features the gastronomic creations of their new chef, Chef Marco Caverni. Bringing with him a rich culinary experience from Italy, China, Singapore, Jakarta, and Seoul, his signature dishes are now available in Kuala Lumpur.

For a limited time only, Mandarin Grill and Chef Marco will be serving their special White Asparagus Menu.

Famous for its uniqueness and delicacy in the United States as well as a major part of Europe; White Asparagus is called the “king of vegetables” and the “edible ivory.” White asparagus is basically green asparagus grown under the cover of soil or dark plastic, unexposed to sunlight. Without chlorophyll, the asparagus does not produce any pigment or colour.

This is actually my first ever encounter with White Asparagus, so I was pretty excited to try out Chef Marco's dishes featuring this unique ingredient. I'm not sure until when this menu will continue to be available (I assume it will be while it's still in season/they have stock), but as of the date of this post's publishing (March 2022), the menu below is still currently available:

I got to try two dishes, and I'll be sharing some shots and thoughts I have on the dishes!

ASPARAGI GRATINATI E UOVA
ANTIPASTO • RM78

Gratinated White Asparagus • 63°C Soft Poached Egg • Parmesan Cheese Tuille • Beef Jus

I thought that this was a great appetizer! I'm a huge fan of cheese and chef was definitely not stingy when topping this off. The parmesan mixed nicely with the egg, and I highly recommend trying this out.

SALMONE
SECONDI • RM158

Roasted Salmon • 3 texture of White Asparagus • Morel Mushroom Sauce

For seconds/the main, I got to try this salmon dish. The asparagus was pretty thick and crunchy, and it complimented the softness of the salmon. The mushroom sauce wasn't too overpowering and I think it was a nice blend of savoury and softness.

Paired it with a glass of white wine!

To be honest, between the entree and the main, I think I enjoyed the entree more. The salmon was good too, but I really just enjoyed the salty/cheesy mixture of the parmesan and the egg with the asparagus hahaha.

CLASSIC GRANDMA TIRAMISU
DESSERT • RM42

A classic that's easily a fave. Made with mascarpone cream with savoiardi biscuit and espresso, if you're ever in the area/staying in MO, I think this would make for a nice late night treat/dessert too.

Although Mandarin Grill serves alcohol, they're also attached to MO Bar which serves a wider variety of drinks. Also recently refurbished, you can drop by here during the weekends or after work to relax and unwind.

Here are some shots I took at the bar!

I can't remember the exact name of this drink but it was pretty good! Zesty and smoky, it was perfect to end a long day.

And that's it for this post! I hope you guys found it helpful and informative.

See y'all in my next post!
