Belif Manology Original Sebum Control Moisturizer Review

June 16, 2020

Hi guys! Today I'll be sharing my review of Belif's Original Sebum Control Moisturizer from the Manology line.

As you all probably already know, Belif is an apothecary skincare brand and they love using plant extracts + their own secret formulas in their ingredients.

The Manology line is a simple but powerful range created by Belif, and although skincare is for all, it can't hurt to use products that are specifically tailored to some issues that men face (like pores, shaved skin, etc).

The Manology line consists of 3 "sub" lines made to cater for all skin types:

Manology 101
For sensitive skin
1st skincare line for those in their 20s

Original Aqua Bouncing
For dry/mature skin
For maintenance for those in their 30s

Original Sebum Control
For oily/acne skin
For maintenance for those in their 30s

I recently got the cleanser for all skin types, as well as the toner and moisturizer for oily skin:

In this post, I'll be sharing all about the moisturizer!

Belif's Manology Original Sebum Control Moisturizer is a lightweight moisturize that works to care for oily skin types. Formulated with Belif's Baldeech Anti-Shine formula, it provides soothing comfort and hydration. It also absorbs quickly into the skin, keeping it clear and clarified without irritation.

This cleanser is available in Belif's offline store, select THE FACE SHOP offline stores and THE FACE SHOP's e-store (link)! With 75ml worth of product, it retails for RM264.90

The Manology products come in Belif's signature grey box packaging:

Though I noticed that these ones have a few nice new details, like how there's a Manology logo for this range, and there's this chic imprint in tiny tiny text about the Manology line's philosophy haha.

Here's the front and the back:

Pretty easy to work with as it's in English.

The cap reminds me of how their signature "hat"-looking caps are, but these somehow look chicer haha. The plastic packaging is transparent so you can easily keep track of how much product you have left.

All Belif products do not contain mineral oil, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, synthetic preservatives or animal origin ingredients. This product, in particular, is paraben-free, sulfate-free, silicone-free and has minimal ingredients.

Water, Alcohol Denat, Glycerin, Dipropylene Glycol, Siliica, 1,2-Hexanediol, Bis- PEG-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane, Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Panthenol, Octyldodeceth- 16, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Ammonium Acryloyl dimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Tromethamine, Carbomer, Lauryl Dimethicone/ Polyglycerin-3 Crosspolymer, Polymethylsilsesquiaxane, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Trisodium EDTA, Sodium Hyaluronate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Peucedanum Graveolens (Dill) Extract, Achillea Millefolium Extract, Chrysanthemum Parthenium (Feverfew) Extract, Althaea Officinalis Root Extract, Euphrasia Officinalis Extract, Arctium Lappa Root Extract, Olea Europaca (Olive) Fruit Oil, Laurus Nobilis Leaf Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Alchemilla Vulgaria Leaf Extract, Viola Tricolor Extract, Rosa Damascena Flower Extract, Spiraea Ulmaria Flower Extract, Thuja Occidentalis Leaf Extract, Symphytum Officinale Leaf Extract, Stellaria Media (Chickweed) Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Extract, Echinacea Angustifolia Extract, Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Oil, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Santalum Album (Sandalwood) Oil, Lavendula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil, Citral, Limonene, Linalool

The ingredients are mostly EWG green-level ingredients with a few yellow ones, meaning they're unlikely to irritate the skin:

The yellows are mostly natural fragrances, and I've stated a lot of times before here on my blog that I don't mind fragrances that much. These ones are of natural original (not synthetic) and I found that they didn't break me out + smelled quite pleasant.

The key ingredients in this cleanser are Laurel (which is known to be excellent at healing inflamed skin + dealing with eczema) as well as Sebum Absorbing Powder (which is excellent in controlling sebum)

I think people with dry skin will enjoy this because of the powerfully moisturizing ingredients like Glycerin & Sodium Hyaluronate, and those with sensitive skin will feel really soothed because of the Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil.

This cleanser also contains new formulas that Belif created for the Manology line, This cleanser, in particular, contains 2:

Baldeech Original Formula
Provides soothing and moisturizing care for healthier skin

Baldeech Anti-Shine Formula
For clarification & balancing

This moisturizer has a light, gel-type texture that is super lightweight and cooling to the touch. It smells similar to the toner, though it scent is not as strong. It really is quite cooling when I apply it on my face, and it sinks in pretty easily, not leaving any stickiness or shine.

I use this as one of the last steps of my skincare routine to seal everything, followed by a sunblock at night.

Cleanser - Toner - Serum - Moisturizer - Sunblock

Because this is so lightweight and refreshing, I highly recommend this to be used during the day time. You can also use it as night, but since it's quite lightweight, make sure that the serums you layer on before it aren't thicker than this moisturizer.

I really like the light texture of this moisturizer for the day, but not for the night. Its really refreshing and light, and I think a lot of guys would love this (especially those living in hot areas!). Also, although it's glossy and shiny when you first apply it, it really sinks in fast and leaves my skin pretty matte. It doesn't feel drying, and I love the refreshing scent.

Throughout the day, I still do secrete sebum. However, I do think that it does control my secretion fairly well. At the end of the day I don't feel greasy at all, and I like how it isn't thick and it doesn't sit on top of the skin.

For the night time however, I would recommend something heavier or with more anti-ageing ingredients. If you're someone who is just getting into skincare or if you're a no-fuss kind of guy, this would be great for you. However, for me who's so used to layering serums and being fully marinated at night, I found myself wanting to layer more serums or to switch out for a thicker moisturizer.

This wouldn't be on top of the list of products I would recommend, but I still enjoyed using it enough to be confident to recommend it. It's a good product to recommend to your brother/dad if he's someone who doesn't really use skincare and would like something easy to use. If you yourself are just starting off with skincare, I would recommend this to start with, but I think you can move on and try other products after you understand your skin more.
