AXIS-Y Quinoa One Step Balanced Gel Cleanser Review

August 9, 2019

Hi guys, welcome back to my blog! Today I'll be sharing all about AXIS-Y's Quinoa One Step Balanced Gel Cleanser.

Axis-Y is a Korean brand that offers climate-based skincare for everyone around the world. As someone who travels a lot, I realize that I usually get breakouts after going on a trip. Be it overseas or local like from KL to Melaka, I always get 1-3 pimples. I think one of the reasons is because when I travel, I usually need to stay in a cramped space (like a bus or a plane) for a few hours, and sharing air with other people isn't the most hygienic. I am currently working in KL and my family is based in Melaka, so I try to go back every month. No joking, I will always break out!

After surveying people's concerns and feedback from social media, Axis-Y created the first-ever climate-based skincare products that protect against skin-damaging environments. Their aim is to deliver healthy vegan ingredients with no harmful additives to those who are very sensitive to the environment + different temperatures.

As a result of air pollution (living in the city), season changes, the difference between indoor and outdoor temperatures and frequent travel between countries in different climate zones, many of us are bothered by skin problems such as pimples, large pores, sensitive and fragile skin, and uneven skin tone. AXIS-Y hopes to help you solve the above problems by hydrating your skin inside and building up your skin barrier outside.

They offer products containing curated natural plant extracts, no toxic chemicals, high standards and strict requirements during manufacturing as well. They're also committed to environmental protection!

They currently only have 1 line available: the 6+1+1 Advanced Formula line. In line with their Natural, Minimal, Science slogan, it contains:

  • 6 finely selected natural plant extracts (Natural)
Axis-Y carefully selected six natural plant extracts that are safe and beneficial to the skin.
  • 1 core ingredient (Minimal)
Axis-Y uses one core ingredients to solve your skin problems effectively without giving additional burden to your skin.
  • 1 specialized skincare technology (Science)
Axis-Y incorporates a patented skincare technology to maximize the effect of improving your skin health.

They currently have 4 products available in their line up:

AXIS-Y Quinoa One Step Balanced Gel Cleanser
AXIS-Y Daily Purifying Treatment Toner
AXIS-Y Artichoke Intensive Skin Barrier Ampoule
AXIS-Y Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum

Axis-Y sent me 3 products from the line to try out. Just a disclaimer, although the products were sent to me, this review still contains my 100% honest and unbiased review.

WHAT IS IT?
The Quinoa One Step Balanced Gel Cleanser clears makeup and pores in one step while delivering a gentle and hydrating wash at your skin’s natural pH. The combination of quinoa and healthy nutrients remove environmental toxins to reveal healthy, lively skin.

The main efficacies promised by this cleanser are:
  • Gently, but effectively clean skin
  • Remove excess keratin and free radicals
  • Rebuild skin for a supple and smooth complexion

WHERE TO BUY?
The full-sized 180ml bottle retails for USD17 on Axis-Y's official website. That's around RM71, which I think is a pretty fair price point considering the price to size ratio of the product.

PACKAGING
Before anything, lemme just say how nice the overall packaging is! The products come in a cream + great packaging that looks uber sleek and minimalist.

The product itself comes in a box:

And the box (thankfully) has information in both English and Korean. So convenient!

The bottle itself comes in plastic while the packaging is matte. I can attest to the labelling's waterproof-ness! It does not peel off + is very sturdy.

At the back you have more info:

And after removing the cap, you get the nozzle which dispenses the product. I think it dispenses nicely + the tiniest pea is usually enough for my entire face.

INGREDIENTS
As I mentioned above, this product contains natural plant extracts with no toxic chemicals at all. It only uses healthy vegan ingredients with no harmful additives.

This product is paraben-free, sulfate-free, alcohol-free, silicone-free and EU allergen-free. After analyzing the ingredients, I found all the ingredients were EWG green-level, meaning they're very unlikely to cause irritation.

It contains ingredients that help with acne fighting (Tea Tree Extract), promotes wound healing (Centella Asiatica Extract) as well as anti-ageing (Citric Acid). It also contains highly moisturizing ingredients good for dry skin (Glycerin), but it also contains ingredients good for those with oily/acne-prone skin (like Tea Tree Extract and Allantoin) and those with sensitive skin (Allantoin).

TEXTURE AND FRAGRANCE
The product is clear in colour and has a slight scent that disappears when you cleanse your face. I only really need to use the tiniest amount to be able to cover my entire face.

HOW TO USE
On the packaging it says to apply 2-3 pumps of the face, gently massaging it and rinsing it off with lukewarm water.

Personally, I like using a bit of water as I find just using the gel is a bit draggy. I usually use 1-2 pumps on a normal day when I don't have any makeup on.

MY REVIEW AND VERDICT
If you watched the video above, you would have my seen that my skin looks squeaky clean! It does not feel dry at all and leaves the skin feeling fresh and clean.

I would not recommend to solely remove makeup with just this cleanser because I feel like cleansing with a makeup remover followed by this cleanser always gives me the cleanest face, but I do feel like it does a good job of removing any excess dirt on my face. My skin always feels soft and smooth after cleansing, and I really like how plump and not dry my face feels.

Let's see what this cleanser promised to do and if it met the measure:
  1. Gently, but effectively clean skin
YES! I feel like this cleanser is on par with the Kiehls Calendula Cleanser or the Dr Wu Aeknu cleanser without being so expensive. It has a good size to price ratio and is quite affordable!
  2. Remove excess keratin and free radicals
    - Not sure. I'm not sure how to measure keratin and free radical removal, but my skin did not break out at all + this cleanser did not over-dry my skin. Usually, with cleansers that are targeted to those with oily skin, it tends to be a bit over-drying. This one is just right + controlled my sebum/oil level nicely.
  3. Rebuild skin for a supple and smooth complexion
    - YES! My skin felt supple and smooth after every cleanse.

WILL I REPURCHASE?
Yes! At USD17 and 180ml worth of product + the effect, I definitely would repurchase this again.

Actually, all 3 products are reasonably priced. Although I would repurchase this product, if I could to recommend only 1 thing from these 3 products, I would say go for the toner!
