AXIS-Y Daily Purifying Treatment Toner Review

August 10, 2019

Hi guys, welcome back to my blog! Today I'll be sharing all about AXIS-Y's Daily Purifying Treatment Toner.

Axis-Y is a Korean brand that offers climate-based skincare for everyone around the world. As someone who travels a lot, I realize that I usually get breakouts after going on a trip. Be it overseas or local like from KL to Melaka, I always get 1-3 pimples. I think one of the reasons is because when I travel, I usually need to stay in a cramped space (like a bus or a plane) for a few hours, and sharing air with other people isn't the most hygienic. I am currently working in KL and my family is based in Melaka, so I try to go back every month. No joking, I will always break out!

After surveying people's concerns and feedback from social media, Axis-Y created the first-ever climate-based skincare products that protect against skin-damaging environments. Their aim is to deliver healthy vegan ingredients with no harmful additives to those who are very sensitive to the environment + different temperatures.

As a result of air pollution (living in the city), season changes, the difference between indoor and outdoor temperatures and frequent travel between countries in different climate zones, many of us are bothered by skin problems such as pimples, large pores, sensitive and fragile skin, and uneven skin tone. AXIS-Y hopes to help you solve the above problems by hydrating your skin inside and building up your skin barrier outside.

They offer products containing curated natural plant extracts, no toxic chemicals, high standards and strict requirements during manufacturing as well. They're also committed to environmental protection!

They currently only have 1 line available: the 6+1+1 Advanced Formula line. In line with their Natural, Minimal, Science slogan, it contains:

  • 6 finely selected natural plant extracts (Natural)
Axis-Y carefully selected six natural plant extracts that are safe and beneficial to the skin.
  • 1 core ingredient (Minimal)
Axis-Y uses one core ingredients to solve your skin problems effectively without giving additional burden to your skin.
  • 1 specialized skincare technology (Science)
Axis-Y incorporates a patented skincare technology to maximize the effect of improving your skin health.

They currently have 4 products available in their line up:

AXIS-Y Quinoa One Step Balanced Gel Cleanser
AXIS-Y Daily Purifying Treatment Toner
AXIS-Y Artichoke Intensive Skin Barrier Ampoule
AXIS-Y Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum

Axis-Y sent me 3 products from the line to try out. Just a disclaimer, although the products were sent to me, this review still contains my 100% honest and unbiased review.

The AXIS-Y Daily Purifying Treatment Toner contains BHA and Tea Tree extracts and is especially formulated for those with oily skin. It helps with acne cleansing and to soothe inflammation.

The main efficacies promised by this cleanser are:
  • Clears out bacteria and pollution stuck deep in pores that cause persistent inflammation and acne.
  • Provide the skin with nutrients from ingredients, effectively soothing skin and promoting healing.

The full-sized 200ml bottle retails for USD25 on Axis-Y's official website. That's around RM100, which I think is a pretty fair price point considering the price to size ratio of the product.

Before anything, lemme just say how nice the overall packaging is! The products come in a cream + great packaging that looks uber sleek and minimalist.

The product itself comes in a box:

And the box (thankfully) has information in both English and Korean. So convenient!

The bottle itself comes in plastic while the packaging is matte. I can attest to the labelling's waterproof-ness! It does not peel off + is very sturdy.

At the back you have more info:

There is a seal that you have to remove when you first open the product.

As I mentioned above, this product contains natural plant extracts with no toxic chemicals at all. It only uses healthy vegan ingredients with no harmful additives.

This product is paraben-free, sulfate-free, silicone-free and EU allergen-free. After analyzing the ingredients, I found all the ingredients were EWG green-level, meaning they're very unlikely to cause irritation.

This product contains brightening ingredients (Licorice Root Extract), acne-fighting ingredients (Licorice Root Extract + Tea Tree Leaf Oil), ingredients that promote wound healing (Centella Asiatica Extract + Sodium Hyaluronate) as well as anti-ageing ingredients (Adenosine).

It also contains highly moisturizing ingredients good for those with dry skin (Beta Glucan, Butylene GlycolSodium Hyaluronate and Glycerin) and well as ingredients that will benefit those with oily (Allantoin) and sensitive skin (Allantoin, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Water, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice).

This product contains 0.5% BHA10,000ppm of Tea Tree extract as well as 110,000ppm of Centella Asiatica extract. If you read my blog, you’ll know that I’m a big fan of BHA toners. One of the best things about this one in particular is that it only contains 0.5% BHA. Sometimes when you travel, your skin tends to be drier. Using the same products you use on a daily basis may dry out your skin some more, so its important to use products that match your skin’s current condition.

This toner has a thin watery texture that smells amazing. It does not leave a sticky finish and absorbs quicky into the skin, cooling and soothing it.

According to the packaging, you're supposed to soak a cotton pad after cleansing and gently spread the liquid over your face.

The scent is invigorating anf light, fading after it is absorbed. It doesn't leave the face sticky at all.

One thing I like about this toner is that not only is it effective and extra soothing, it's also multi-functional! You can pat it into the skin for more moisture or use some cotton pads as a mini mask for trouble areas. Although I do not keep this toner in a fridge, I find that it’s still quite cooling + lowers the temperature of my skin, especially when I use it as a mask. If you are someone who plays sports or are outdoors a lot, I recommend trying this technique.

Let's see what this toner promised to do and if it met the measure:

  1. Clears out bacteria and pollution stuck deep in pores that cause persistent inflammation and acne
    - YES! This toner helped to keep me sebum free during my travels/daily use, but it did not strip away too much oil for my skin to actually over-produce. It is great at soothing inflamed skin, and I think those with acne/oily skin like me looking for a toner that gives your skin the perfect balance will like this.
  2. Provide the skin with nutrients from ingredients, effectively soothing skin and promoting healing.
    - YES! Even wiping on my face once, I could already feel that my skin was hydrated. Using it as a mask really helps to cool and soothe irritations, even without putting it in a fridge!

The toner doesn’t leave a sticky residue and makes my skin feel hydrated and refreshed. Although all skin types can use it, the toner was specially made for those with oily skin like me in mind. I quite like the toner, and I recommend those with oily skin as well to give it a try.

Yes! At USD25 and 200ml worth of product + the effect, I definitely would repurchase this again.

Actually, all 3 products are reasonably priced. Although I would repurchase this product, if I could to recommend only 1 thing from these 3 products, I would say go for the toner!
