Dr. Wu aekni:17 Anti-Acne System Pore Clarifying Toner with BHA Review

April 2, 2019

Hi guys, welcome back to my blog! Today I'll be sharing about Dr. Wu's aekni:17 Anti-Acne System Pore Clarifying Toner with BHA.

Dr. Wu is Taiwan's leading medical skincare brand, and their products are popular for having high concentrations of high-grade active ingredients, as well as no additives + no alcohol. I've seen them in stores ever since I was in high school, and I'm super happy to finally have a chance to try out their products!

Containing an anti-acne formula that they call aekni:17 , the Anti-Acne System collection consists of 3 basic products to cover all the bases + 1 special treatment for extra care. The products from the Anti-Acne System collection features 17 different active ingredients (like salicylic acid, tea tree oil and their special aekni:17 formula), and this special blend of active ingredients help to control acne & oil control, as well as soothe, moisturize and heal the skin.

Although Dr Wu sent these products to me to try out, I'll be sharing my personal experience and honest review about them (like always)

Without further ado, let's get on with the review!

WHAT IS IT
The System Pore Clarifying Toner with BHA is an alcohol-free toner that helps to regulate sebum secretion and purify clogged pores, effectively soothing and calming the skin. It has a light but moisturizing texture and contains Mandelic Acid (Dr. Wu's signature ingredient), Niacinamide, Panthenol and their new aekni:17 formula for a complete treatment for acne-prone skin.

WHERE TO BUY
You can buy the full sized 150ml bottle on Watsons for RM149. It's pretty up there in terms of price (its very similarly priced to my fave Kiehl's Calendula toner), but then again, Dr Wu is considered on of the best and effective Taiwan skincare brands that use only high-grade active ingredients. Is the price worth it? Read on to find out!

PACKAGING
This product comes with a box with all the information:

As well as a seal of authenticity:

The product itself comes in a semi-transparent bottle where you can view how much product you have left:

It also has a stopper which can be reused to keep the product fresh/extra sealed.

INGREDIENTS
This toner is paraben-free, sulfate-free, alcohol-free and silicone-free.

It has quite a unique list of ingredients which never usually see in Korean skincare like Isomerized Safflower Acid (anti-inflammatory), Magnolol (anti-inflammatory & de-stressing) & Honokiol (a traditional ingredient used in eastern medicine which is anti-inflammatory and is an anti-oxidant)

The ingredients are mostly green/yellow EWG-grade ingredients, so it means they're quite unlikely to irritate the skin:

The ingredients in this toner help to brighten the skin (Niacinamide), anti aging (Mandelic acid), promote wound healing (Panthenol) and of course, help fight acne (Salicylic Acid).

It also contains ingredients that are good for dry skin (Panthenol, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol) and good at regulating oil/sebum production (Salicylic acid).

FRAGRANCE & TEXTURE
This toner is clear in colour and has a mild citrusy scent. It's nothing too heavy and disappears after a few seconds.

HOW TO USE
I like using a cotton pad with my toners to help better remove dead skin cells, so I usually pour some on a cotton pad and wipe it on my face un an upwards motion.

I use this product after cleansing my face!

MY REVIEW & VERDICT
I quite like this toner, but I think I still prefer Somebymi's AHA BHA PHA toner slightly more. It's not a bad product, and is actually quite good. It functions in the same way and helps to keep me acne free, but I feel like Somebymi's toner works faster in a way. I think this product would be ideal for those with acne/acne scars, and that it indeed does what it says it will do.

Its pretty moisturizing on my skin and doesn't dry me out (although it contains salicylic acid, which is great!). Its comfy on my face and is pretty to the point.

WILL I REPURCHASE
If I had extra cash, I would definitely repurchase this product. It has a lot of great ingredients that work together to keep me acne-free, and I love love love the scent. I think the only down side is the price. If you're working like me and have some cash to spare, I recommend investing in this as the ingredients are really good + it works well at maintaining my oily/acne skin. However, if you're a student on a budget, I recommend going for something more affordable!

And that's it for this review! I hope you found it helpful and informative.
