Thean Hou Temple • Chinese New Year OOTD

January 30, 2019 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Hi guys, today I'll be sharing a bit about Thean Hou Temple and the pics I shot there for Chinese New Year!

According to Wikipedia, Thean Hou Temple is a 6-tiered temple to the Chinese sea goddess Mazu. It's located smack in the centre of the city, making it a popular tourist destination + photo shooting spot for prewedding shots + Instagrammers.

I've always seen it around on Instagram, but Jessica Chaw's latest posts on IG were actually the ones that motivated me to go and check it out for myself.

The most iconic spot in this temple would have to be the two pagodas at the side. There are pagodas on each side of the temple which look really stunning when shot in its entirety:

If you angle your shot a bit to the left (or to the right if you're on the other side), you'll manage to get the main temple in your shot as well:

If you stand in the pagoda itself and shoot the other way round, you'll also get a nice shot with the KL skyline and the intricate temple roof:

Once you're in the pagoda, you can actually proceed to go up some more to the roof/terrace, where you can see the temple & the pagodas from a bird's eye's view:

At the heart of the temple downstairs, you can pay your respects or take shots in the main courtyard (where there are strings upon strings of lanterns up now)

At the side there are passageways to the side & back of the temple:

And there are currently flower installations up at the side for photo purposes:

I went with my brother on a Saturday around 10am, and there was already a bit of a crowd there. If you'd like to get wide shots, you'll have to come early so as to avoid photobombers + save you time on editing them away. Although the place looks big, it's actually quite compact in real life. I suggest coming earlier to avoid the crowds! Also, bring a camera with a wide lens if you wanna shoot pics at the pagoda!

Aaaaand that's it for this post! Huge shoutout as always to my brother for the awesome shots 💕If you're looking for a spot to take pics in this Chinese New Year or if you'll be in town for a holiday and looking for instagrammable spots, definitely add Thean Hou Temple to your list!

See y'all in the next post! 💕
