ByWishtrend Green Tea & Enzyme Powder Wash Review

December 19, 2017

Hi guys, welcome back to my blog! Today I'll be sharing all about ByWishtrend's Green Tea & Enzyme Powder Wash.

If you aren't familiar with ByWishtrend, it is basically Wishtrend's in-house brand. They've released a couple of products before this as well and I want to say that this is their latest product, however that's not the case hahaha. They just launched the Teca 1% Barrier Cream, which means this review is now super super late hahaha.

Anyhoo, Wishtrend sent over the Green Tea & Enzyme Powder Wash a few weeks ago for me to review, as well as 2 other products from ByWishtrend: the the Vitamin 76 Maximizing Cream and 5 sheets of the Natural Vitamin 21.5 Enhancing Sheet Mask. They also sent over their iconic crown hairband which I've wanted for so long! Even though the products were sent to me, as always this review will contain my 100% honest thoughts.

Without further ado, let's get started!

WHAT IS IT

This product is a green tea powder wash that claims to leave the skin with a hydrated finish. Altogether it has 4 main claims:

1. Low-irritation cleanser that even people with sensitive skin can use
2. Includes baking soda, coconut-derived surfactant, and enzymes that keep the skin hydrated while taking care of blackheads and dead skin cells.
3. Antioxidant effects within the green tea and baking powder improves skin troubles and clears the skin.
4. Balance skin's pH level.

WHERE TO BUY

This product is available on Wishtrend's official website for $22 (~RM89). Click here to check it out!.

PACKAGING

The powder wash bottle comes packaged in a box and you get 70g of product.

A quick peek inside the bottle and you'll see that the bottle is only half full with the powder (but it's still 70g hahaha). I find that the packaging is quite inconvenient because I usually use it to cleanse my face in the bathroom (along with my bath). You have to be really careful in pouring the product out because the hole is quite big and the powder flows out really easily. I suggest pouring some into your hands while you're still dry (but more on that later 😉).

INGREDIENTS

There are 4 key ingredients in this product:

Green tea - rich in vitamins such as vitamin A, C, and E. Calms and improves skin tone, effectively clearing the skin.

Papain - found in papayas, eliminates old keratin and skin wastes to improve overall skin texture. Helps to exfoliate the skin without irritation.

Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) - Works as a soft and gentle scrub agent, excellent ingredient for removing blackheads.Excellent for deeply penetrating and cleansing the pores.

Amino acid surfactants
- derived from coconuts, helps retain moisture and gives excellent moisturizing effects.

According to CosDNA, among all 17 ingredients used, all have a low rating except for the papain which has a moderate grade.

FRAGRANCE & TEXTURE

The product is light green and comes in a powdery texture. Once you open the bottle you immediately smell green tea! It's similar to those matcha drinks/cakes/sweets!

Once lathered, it becomes a white thin foam that really does smell like green tea latte! I couldn't make as much foam as how it looked like on Wishtrend's Instagram, but the product did foam slightly. It smells very matcha-y and I would compare it to a green tea latter/frappucino that you can get at Starbucks. The scent is very calming and does not stay once washed off. As for the texture during cleansing, it's very thin, smooth and soapy.

HOW TO USE

Although this product can be used for all skin types, it is especially recommended for people with acne-prone skin (aka moi). This product can mainly be used as a cleanser. How I make a lather with this is I put a little bit on my hands and mix in a bit of water. You only really need the tiniest bit to create a lather that will be enough for your entire face (I'd say about half a teaspoon).

Before using this product, I thought that it would be a grainy exfoliator, but it turns out that it dissolves completely and it's the papain enzyme that will do the exfoliation. It lathers very easily and I find that using this as a cleanser is very calming for the senses haha, the smell is just so amazing! After washing my face, I rinse the product off with lukewarm water. You can use this daily but it is not recommended to use it with other products that have exfoliating effects like retinol, high concentrations of vitamin C, AHA & BHA, etc.

Wishtrend also says that this product can be used as a cleansing water:

Another way to use this product that I found out accidentally is as a mask! Similar to the cleansing water method above, how I did this is instead of using a lot of water and a little powder, I reversed it. I put some powder on a dish and mixed in only a few drops of water. One the powder fully mixes with the drops of water, you'll get a paste/mixture that looks like green milk tea.

It dries quite fast and once it's dry it looks like a green clay mask:

I applied it the first time as a mask on one side of my face for 10 minutes and I was so surprised with the results! It totally stripped my face of all oil but it did not feel dry at all! Since I was just at home, I didn't apply any moisturizer to that side. Although it wasn't super plump and super moisturized, after around 20 minutes the hydration came back to my face and it felt like normal again.

MY REVIEW + VERDICT

This product did not irritate me at all and after using it as my daily cleanser for a few weeks now, I find that it's amazing! After cleansing my face I immediately feel that it's softer. It does help to remove excess sebum on my face and control it throughout the day.

I did a moisture test with my new Wayskin (hohoho) in the morning to see how the moisturizing properties of this product are. When I woke up in the morning I had 52%. After using the product to cleanse my face, it became 68%! Not that highly moisturizing but it did moisturize my skin.

For exfoliation, although it did not physically exfolaite my skin, the enzyme exfoliation did make my skin feel smoother and softer! I mentioned several times in my blog that I hate cleansers with beads, but I'm okay with sugar scrubs like Skinfood's Black Sugar one. What's bad about SF's sugar scrub is that even though it is a great product, it's still sugary/sharp and has a possibility of causing microscarring. This product's papain enzymes help to gently exfoliate the skin, so there's less damage with the even better results!

I didn't break out at all with this product, but once advise I would give with using product as a mask not more than once a week. I guess wearing it as a mask everyday would be too drying, so to balance it out I use it as a mask once a week like a normal clay mask.

I don't really have a pH detector so I can't comment on the pH controlling properties of this product.

Overall I would rate this product a solid 9.9/10! I really love how it easily cleanses/polishes my skin and controls my sebum. The one thing I really don't like about this product is the packaging. Even if I pour it carefully when my hands are dry, I still end up with more product that I need, so I have to pour it back into the bottle. This is a bit unhygienic and will make you finish your product faster (if you spill some on the floor, etc)...but I can't really think of how you can package this better 🤔 You can't use a serum bottle, a tub would be inconvenient and a tube...would be impractical. Maybe make the hole of the bottle smaller?

WILL I REPURCHASE

Defnitely, I'm now a fan! I like how simple and to the point this product is. I don't mind that it's not super moisturizing because I usually follow up with other products after cleansing anyway. I like that it helps control sebum which in turn lessens my breakouts (as well as gently exfoliate my skin!).

And that's it for this post! I hope you guys found it interesting and informative. As always, thanks for reading and see y'all in the next post!
