Maze @ Chaze, Menara Lien Hoe 🍷 High Tea Review 🍰

July 19, 2017

Hi guys, welcome back to my blog! Today I'll be sharing all about the high tea sesh I had the other day with my colleagues from work at Maze @ Menara Lien Hoe.

Address:
1st Floor, Menara Lien Hoe, No 8 Persiaran Tropicana, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia.

Opening hours:
Sunday to Thursday: 10am to 1am
Friday to Saturday: 10am to 2am

Contact:

My visit was very interesting because compared to previous high tea places I've been to, Maze is more discreet. You have to enter Chaze (Maze's sister restaurant) and go through a set of stairs to reach Maze's entrance. You wouldn't really be able to chance upon it as the only sign indicating that the place is Maze is located inside Chaze as well (I wish I took pics of the entrance but sadly I forgot T.T)

Anyhoo, I feel like all this jumbo about Maze being hidden actually gives it a very exclusive almost mafia-esque vibe!

By day, Maze serves as a saloon which offers high tea. By night, Maze transforms into a gin parlour! According to Eat Drink KL, Maze actually has a Jekyll & Hyde concept which I thought was really unique!

The gin parlor alter ego of Maze further strengthened the mafia feels I was getting, but I actually ended up really enjoying the dim lighting and cozy setting of the place.

Poshly decorated, the decor consists of velvet curtains, leather couches and artsy pieces.

My group and I came to Maze around 2pm after our hair spa sesh at Here's.

Maze's high tea set costs RM78 and consists of 3 savoury items, 6 sweet items and 2 cups of coffee or tea (no tea pots, but the hot water for the tea is refillable).

The presentation was super super grand! There were 6 of us so we ordered 3 sets, and the first one came in a golden umbrella tray on trolley!

The design itself is unique, but paired with the way they presented it majestically with the trolley + the ethereal fairy lights...it was just so magical!

Soon after the other two sets arrived, and the second one came in a pavillion-esque dome platter:

And the third on a bike:

*Cue 1-hour long photo session*

Maze went for a luxurious vibe in their decor and conveyed the same vibe of luxury with their presentation. We seriously could not get over the detailing and the way it was presented hahaha.

Here's the contents of the set (copied the names off of Tammy's blog since I forgot to jot them down haha):

Savoury
Smoke Duck Canape
Mediterranean Sandwich
Smoke Salmon Sandwich

Sweet
Butter croissant with Salted Egg Yolk Dip
Peanut Butter
Danish Mixed Fruit Tart
Dark Hazelnut Tart
Passion fruit Meringue Tart
Macaroon (Assorted Flavours)

The smoked duck canape was pretty good, but I think the stand out for me was the Salted Egg Yolk Dip. I think I dipped everything savoury in it because it was just so good!

Price wise, I think RM78 is a pretty good deal. Two people can share the set and they don't charge per head (unlike some hotels). The savoury stuff were pretty good and the sweet stuff (especially the chocolate cake) were nice as well.

We all chose tea, and you can select from Jing tea or 12 different TWG flavours.

I tried out Jing tea;s blackcurrant and hibiscus tea and it was both fruity and sour, my kinda tea! It went well with the tea set and I highly recommend it.

Maze also has a few cakes on display, so if you're feeling peckish you can also order a slice.

Btw, side note: the set contains no pork and lard, but I heard there's a gin high tea set available as well.

We ended up staying longer than I had expected, and I think it was because the place was just so cozy. After we had our fill, we each decided to get some cocktails.

I ordered a white wine sangria but ended up with a red one. Nonetheless is was good. Who can say no to a good glass of wine y'all?

Syd's Reviver was sweeter and fruitier, which honestly was more my style. I highly recommend this to others who have a sweet tooth like me, or if you wanna just have a nice chill drink.

Bo's Love Potion (above) wasn't really my cup of tea, and so was Tammy's Lemon Fizz (below). I guess I'm just a wine boy at heart haha.

Overall we had a super chill afternoon bonding session at Maze. Out of 10 I think I'd give it a solid 9. Although it's different from other high tea places that are usually bright and have garden motifs, it still had a luxurious ambiance. The food was great and so were the drinks, so I highly recommend you visit Maze if you're in town!

There are more seats available but the space is limited, so I recommend booking ahead to avoid disappointment.

And that's all for this post! As always, thanks for reading and see y'all in the next post 💖
