Althea.kr Good Day Hair Box Review

January 21, 2017

Hello everyone, welcome back to another box review! Today I'll be sharing my thoughts on the products inside Althea.kr's Good Day Hair Box!

If you follow me on social media or here on my blog, you would have seen my numerous hair color changes. A lot of people often ask me how I deal with the damage and aftermath of bleaching. It's actually not that hard. All you need is proper care and treatment, and your hair will be a-ok. I once bleached my hair 4 times straight and it was fried af after that. After a bit over a week's worth of extensive (ok, not that extensive) hair care/routine, it was shiny and felt normal again.

Althea recently started doing boxes where you can buy themed products without having to subscribe to any weekly/monthly subscription. You can choose which ones you like and only get those, and you won't be forced to get products you don't really like (like other box subscriptions).

The best thing is that you can get the items as a set for a much lower price! I previously reviewed their Superfood Box (click here to read), which had 8 products worth RM493, but it only cost RM138!

The Good Day Hair Box has 7 products worth RM338, but only retails for RM100!

Its definitely a good deal, no matter how you look at it. The products included in the box are:

1. Innisfree Green Mint Shampoo
2. Piolang Raspberry Hair Vinegar
3. Hello Everybody Biotin Hair Oil
4. Missha Senseful Lady Hair Mist
5. Rire Scalp Scaling Program
6. Merit Perfumegraphy Leave-on Treatment
7. Kokostar Ggongji Hair Pack

It can look a bit confusing, so I divided them into 3 categories:

Why I divided them like this is because my hair "revival" process consists of 3 steps:

Shampoo and Conditioner can be used daily, both day and night, but I like to skip days to let my hairs natural oils come out. How I usually interchange them is

Shampoo - skip - Conditioner - skip - Shampoo - skip - Conditioner - ...

It's not an exact science~ Whenever my hair feels too greasy I use shampoo, when it feels dry I condition, etc. I'm not saying this is the right hair routine, but it's how I do MY hair. Also, on days when I skip, I just rinse my hair with water. I usually don't sweat and I don't stink, so don't judge 😂

I do light treatment in the morning because I want my hair to be nourished throughout the day. I mainly use hair oil in the morning because if you have bleached or dyed hair, you know that its very easy to get dry and frizzy hair, especially after drying it with a hair dryer.

The most of my "recovering" happens at night when I do heavy treatment. I usually use hair masks, creams, serums, etc. at night after showering.

So those were my two cents on my hair routine, now onto my thoughts on the products!

Innisfree has a lot of popular products that are focused on being natural and organic, but I've never really tried out their bath and body products before, only their skincare. This shampoo has a very minty smell because of its minty formulation for sebum control. The smell actually really reminds me of this candy called Maxx from the Philippines.

It says that there's mint oil and mint extract inside it, and its definitely very cooling to the scalp. It does a good enough job of cleansing my hair (it doesn't feel greasy, which is the main point of shampoo lol), but I'm not sure about the sebum controlling properties. This is mainly because I use products after it so I can't really judge. However, in terms of cooling, cleanliness and refreshment, I give this an A!

It's called "B" hair oil because its main ingredient is Biotin, also known as Vitamin B7. Biotin is known to help thicken hair. Aside from Vitamin B7, it also includes Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin), Vitamin B3 (Niacin), Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin) and Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid), so there's a total of 5 vitamins! It also has 4 natural oils: argan tree kernel oil, palm oil, evening primrose oil and macadamia seed oil.

The consistency of this oil is slightly thicker than other hair oils I've used, but its not a big deal. I use only ONE pump, spread it on my palms and apply it evenly to my hair. I have to say out of all the products in this box, I've used this the most! The sheen is really pretty, and it also provides heat protection to the hair. What I do is I apply this onto wet hair before using a hair dryer. Works like a charm!

If you have curly/wavy/permed hair, this can also be used to give it a healthy sheen.

Side note: Doesn't curly hair look good on me?!

I was quite skeptical of this product because its the first time I've heard of hair vinegar. The description says that it helps to optimize the scalp environment and to strengthen the hair's elasticity. It's also supposed to leave the hair feeling soft and refreshed.

Once I opened it I WANTED TO DRINK IT! Like, where was the vinegar smell? It totally smelled like Ribena! The description said to use it after shampoo, and to rinse it out after massaging it into the scalp.

How I use this is I pour the product into the cap and the pour it onto my hair. If you use your hands it can get quite tricky because the product always drips. I use 2 caps every time just for maximum effect, and it really does make the hair slightly softer. You know that stringy feeling after you wash your hair? You don't get that with this!

This has quite a powdery flowery scent to it. Not a big fan of it, but I don't hate it either. To be honest I've been using body mist for my hair because who doesn't want every inch of their body to smell like Victoria's Secret?! *ahem* Anyways, this isn't a VS dupe or anything, but it does stay on longer than body mist. I suggest spraying it at a distance. Any less than an arm's length will soak your hair. You don't want to wet it, only lightly shower it with the scent.

This is probably the least used product in this box for me. Its a intensive treatment product that targets the scalp. You squeeze the tube and roll the end onto the scalp. It has rollers so it kind of massages your scalp as well.

I don't have troublesome/flaky scalp in the first place so I didn't see much of a visible difference. My mum however has a bit of flaking going on that head of hers, so I might give her this product when I go home next month~

💛

This product is a leave on mask type of product which promises to nourish and moisturize hair. It has a high amount of avocado oil, which is known to be good for dry, brittle and damaged hair.

I apply this product at night after washing my hair. I leave it overnight and my hair feels so soft the day after! True to its name, it also leaves a very nice scent, especially on days when I skip, aka don't use shampoo/conditioner. The softness lasts the whole day, and the first day after I used it I actually  couldn't stop running my fingers through my hair!

This can also be used in the morning, but I personally don't like going out of the house with anything more that hair oil in my hair. It feels a bit heavy, but if you're staying at home for the whole day, this can be a quick spa treatment for your hair.

This was the most unique product in this box. I've never heard of a hair pack before! The sample images of how it's supposed to be used looks like this:

After some research, I found out that its an award winning product first introduced by Memebox. It's main purpose is to fix damaged hair ends caused by dyeing, perming, etc.

At first I thought the product was gonna be soaked in liquid like a normal face sheet mask, but it was actually dry. The product itself was a white cream inside the pocket. I think this product was meant specifically for people with long hair/ponytails. I couldn't get it to fit my head, so I just cut it open and put it on my head (it kinda looked like a pad hahaha). It became like mask, making my hair smooth. I can't judge its damage end repairing powers tho~

And that was it for my review of Althea's Good Day Hair Box! If you divide RM100 by 7 products, each full sized product costs about RM14. Its definitely a good deal, and if you don't need all 7 products, you can always share with your friends and family (like I am with my mum).
