At19Culinary Christmas Cupcake Workshop 🎄

November 27, 2016

Hello everybody! Today's post will be all about a Christmas Cupcake Workshop I attended with my fellow butterflies at At19 Culinary! 🍳

The workshop took place at this quaint culinary school called At19Culinary, located in Bukit Damansara.

Address:
19, Jalan Dungun, Bukit Damansara,
50490 Kuala Lumpur,
Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The kitchen/learning area was really clean and picturesque: exactly what you would expect to see in those cooking shows on TV! Complete with pots, pans and cooking utensils of all shapes and sizes.

For the workshop, my fellow bloggers and I got to make red velvet cupcakes with the guidance of At19's super informative and friendly staff.

Our instructor Suraiya was a very good teacher. She explained the steps clearly and was ready to help us when we had questions. I'm don't have a flair for cooking or baking (I'm prefer eating haha), but I actually found the whole thing very fun!

There were 20 of us bloggers and we were separated into 4 groups. My group consisted of mainly new Butterflies (or you could say caterpillars). Dash, Sammy and Yinyin were all great group mates!

First, we had to make the batter with the caster sugar, butter, vanilla extract, etc.

The dry and wet ingredients had to be mixed in a mixer (lol) and although my mum has one of these at home, it was a pretty cool experience to be put in charge of using it.

Bit by bit the ingredients went in:

And don't judge, but the batter was really good 😂 every time the batter would get on my fingers I'd just nibble away. Unhygienic I know, that's how I got eliminated from Masterchef :(

These two shots below were taken mid-laugh and although I normally don't post photos of me smiling or laughing out loud with teeth, I kinda liked these. It had that candid feel that my photos obviously lack hahaha.

If you ever wondered how I really laugh in real life:

I'm not the stoic bitch faced person you guys see on Instagram on a daily basis hahaha.

Anyways, here's Dash and I with the fully mixed batter:

Next thing we had to do was fill the cups with the batter:

And to put them in the preheated oven:

I forgot when it happened but in the midst of that we created the cream cheese whipping topping thingy as well with a lot of butter & cream cheese.

While the cupcakes were baking and the cream was set aside, we moved onto the fondant toppings!

Suraiya demonstrated how the fondant should be handled (with flour, no water, etc.) and how we can make cute shapes to top our cupcakes.

As a demo, she made a 2D Christmas tree and a 3D Santa hat. How cool is that?

After a quick demo we all got busy and started doing our fondant decorations.

And after an eternity of details and cutting, we were ready to assemble everything together!

The other Butterflies had a lot of creative designs and tbh I felt like mine was a bit too plain hahaha. Like look at their designs!

The whole workshop was super fun and I had a great time! It was nice meeting fellow bloggers and learning how to make cupcakes (which tasted delicious by the way).

My cupcakes were...pretty basic, please don't judge.

Most of my ideas were plagiarized from designs I saw around the table hahaha. I wasn't feeling creative! The bear design was an original though, inspired by Line's Brown (which is also my phone case if you didn't already know)

I'm definitely looking forward to more Butterfly Events! If you guys are bloggers and you'd like to attend/join cool events like this, definitely check out The Butterfly Project!

Thanks to Tammy for the invite:
