Hada Labo is a popular skincare brand from Japan and its said that their products are so popular that one bottle is sold every four seconds. Crazy right?
I actually tried this product out a year ago when i bought their started kit. Its costs RM19-ish and includes their wash, lotion and milk.
The wash wasn't anything new but the lotion and the milk really intrigued me. The lotion may look like a toner but its not. At first I was a bit confused but after all my research, I found out that its supposed to hydrate your skin and prepare it for serum, essence, moisturizer and all that good stuff.
This one was from the starter kit. The one on the left with the light blue is the lotion while the one on the right with pink is the milk |
I just kept on buying the trial kit when it clicked in my mind that I should probably get the full sized bottle if I liked it so much. I went to Watsons earlier this year and they were having and offer of two full sized bottles for the price of one. One thing is that the new bottles now came in Normal (like the ones on the trial packs) and Rich versions. Thinking that Rich was better, I bought them. I then found out that the Rich was for dry to normal skin types. I don't find it different from the Normal one though~
So without further ado, on with the review!
*Disclaimer: I was not paid to make this review. I bought this product and this is my own honest opinion.*
WHAT IS IT?
As I mentioned, this product is a lotion. What is a lotion you may ask? A lotion is basically a like an essence, which helps hydrate your skin as well as prep it for the other layers of skincare products that you will be layering on. It helps you balance your skin pH all that good stuff.
So about this lotion, it claims that it can hydrate your skin and make it bouncy, as well as make you have a more even and fairer complexion.
WHERE TO BUY?
As I mentioned above, I purchased this product at the price of one bottle for two, but I forgot exactly how much I paid for it. I checked Watsons' website though, and this product normally retails for RM59.30.
PACKAGING
The product comes in a tube where you have to tip it to get the product out. Since its not made of glass, its not hard to tip. You also don't face the risk of it breaking.
INGREDIENTS
This product contains Arbutin and three kinds of Hyaluronic Acid:
Arbutin is an extract from bearberry and is a safe and natural ingredient for whitening. Its a popular ingredient in Japanese products and is used to fight dark spots.
Hyaluronic acid is a powerful moisture-binding ingredient that keeps skin plump and hydrated. It is also present in out bodies. The reason why babies' skin are so soft is because we are born with high levels of hyaluronic acid. HA is also considered to be one of the best ingredients for wrinkle prevention.
Hada Labo's Whitening Lotion contains 3D hyaluronic acid which is HA that is binded closely to form a moisture net that wraps the skin to provide long lasting moisture retention.
Its also alcohol and colorant free!

HOW TO USE
I usually incorporate it into my daily skincare routine as follows:
Cleanser - Toner - Lotion - Acne - Serum - Moisturizer
This product is NOT a toner, therefor it cannot give you double cleansing like a toner can. Also, this product is applied to the skin in a special patting motion instead of using a cotton pad and wiping it on.
Usually after washing my face I don't dry it. I use a cotton pad to wipe the water off because of hygiene purposes and use toner to get rid of any excess dirt. After that I apply three to four drops of the lotion on my palms and pat it on my face.
Also, the reason why I apply it after toner is because I want to hydrate my face after stripping it of its natural oils after cleansing. Since the texture is light, it should come first. Korean skincare rules follow the rule of going from thinnest to thickest, so apply this before applying any serums or moisturizers.
MY REVIEW
Moisturizing effect: This product is VERYYYYY moisturizing. I cannot stress this enough. I love this product and if I was stranded on an island with just one product I would choose this! It locks in moisture very well and is very light on the skin. Since its very hot in Malaysia I wouldn't really wanna have something thick on my face for the whole day. This product is very...watery and feels very light. After it absorbs into your skin it stays hydrated but it doesn't feel super sticky and tacky at all.
The formula is very lightweight and its almost as transparent as water. Its a bit white I guess?
Whitening effect: As for the whitening effects of this product...I don't really see any. When I bought this product i had to choose between this one and the Hydrating Lotion. I decided to get this because its supposed to have whitening effects but...I don't see any visible effects.
MY VERDICT
This is a holy grail product for me and I love it! I will probably die with this product in my hands. It locks in moisture very well and is very light. Since I have oily skin I need something light to hydrate my skin. Oil does not equal hydration so just because you're oily doesn't mean you don't need moisture. Your skin might be lacking in moisture inside and produce more oil to hydrate itself! This product hydrates my face without giving my face any extra sheen. My face also doesn't produce as much oil as it did last time!
WILL I REPURCHASE?
YES. I SHALL DIE WITH THIS PRODUCT IN MY GRAVE. lol It will probably be a long time till I repurchase it though, because even though I use three drops in the morning and three drops at night EVERY NIGHT, I'm still only halfway through my first bottle. The expiration date is on 2018 though, so no worries.
Thanks for reading my honest review of Hada Labo's Whitening Lotion with Arbutin and 3D Hyaluronic Acid. I've been feeling the "review mode" since yesterday and I'll probably be posting more reviews in the next couple days. If I don't I probably got lazy lol.
(UPDATE) I have uploaded my review for the Whitening Milk. Click here if you want to read that!
Thanks again for reading and please look forward to my future reviews!
