Kiehl's Calendula Serum Infused Water Cream Review

June 1, 2019

Hi guys, today I’ll be sharing all about Kiehl's latest product, the Calendula Serum Infused Water Cream.

If you didn't already know, I'm a super huge fan of Kiehl's Calendula line. I think they work really great for my skin and do a great job at keeping my acne and sebum at bay.

Kiehl's recently expanded their Calendula line with their new water cream moisturizer, and I made a video showing you guys how to use it + what my current Kiehl's faves are:

The Calendula flower is an annual flower native to the northern Mediterranean countries, and it's named that way because of its tendency to bloom with the calendar, usually once a month or with every new moon. It's a relative of marigolds and back in the day, American physicians used calendula to treat amenorrhea, conjunctivitis, fevers, cuts, scrapes, bruises, and burns, as well as minor infections of the skin

Calendula flowers are also used to disinfect minor wounds because of its antibacterial properties. It also stimulates the production of collagen and minimizes scarring, which is perfect for someone like me who is very acne prone and has a lot of acne scars. Calendula is also known to help brighten our overall complexion.

I've personally used and bought the previous three Calendula products and decided to get the new cream, but the people at Kiehl's were super nice and sent over a deluxe size for me to try out. After trying it out for a few weeks, I'm finally here to update you guys with my thoughts about it!

WHAT IS IT
Suitable for those with normal to oily & combo skin, the new Calendula Serum Infused Water Cream helps to reduce redness, boost radiance, even skin tone, improve uneven texture and soften the skin immediately, giving it 24-hour lasting hydration.

Inspired by Kiehl's best-selling Calendula Herbal-Extract Toner, the new water cream is formulated with their concentrated Calendula Serum (which is infused with Calendula Flower Extract and hundreds of micronized Calendula petals). Upon application, this unique, lightweight moisturizer promises to provide a burst of soothing hydration for fresh, radiant skin.

WHERE TO BUY

This product is currently available in all Kiehl's stores, as well as their online store here. You can get the 28ml tub for RM130 or the 50ml tub for RM190.

PACKAGING
The packaging is yellow and semi transparent, similar to the Calendula & Aloe mask. As I mentioned, I got this deluxe size as PR, so I do not have the full sized packaging. I'm not sure if it has a spatula for hygienic scooping, but I hope it comes with one!

INGREDIENTS
Inside of every jar of Calendula Serum-Infused Water Cream are hundreds of micronized Calendula petals. Each individual petal has 5 discomfort-reducing compounds, namely Quercetin (74%), alpha and beta Amyrin (13%), Oleanolic Acid (8%) and Lupeol (5%). These 5 compounds help the skin resist early signs of aging, including uneven texture, dullness, and dry fine lines.

This product is paraben-free, sulfate-free, alcohol-free and fungal acne safe. After analysing the ingredient lists, I found that it's pretty clean aside from the Citral and Geraniol fragrance. My skin did not react to these fragrances, and I did not break out at all.

Aside from Calendula extracts, it contains ingredients that promote wound healing (Panthenol Alpha Bisabolol), help with anti-ageing (Tocopherol & Citric Acid) and help brighten the skin (Alpha-Bisabolol). It also contains highly moisturizing ingredients that those with dry skin types will especially enjoy (PanthenolMatricaria Flower OilGlycerin, Propylene Glycol and Vitamin E).

FRAGRANCE & TEXTURE
The scent is very similar to the wash off mask, if not a little more citrusy. It has a water cream texture, and it feels very lightweight. It doesn’t leave a shiny finish and feels comfortably light on the skin

This unique water cream texture was actually made to contain Kiehls’ concentrated Calendula Serum. Upon application, the Calendula Serum transforms into a burst of freshness and delivers hundreds of micronized Calendula petals and the highest level of Calendula Extract Kiehl’s has ever produced directly to the skin.

HOW TO USE
On the Kiehl's website, it's recommended to apply it after cleanser, toner and serum with clean fingertips. Simply massage a pea-sized amount onto the skin! It can be used morning and night and should be used with a sunscreen in the day.

MY REVIEW & VERDICT
After using this moisturiser, I can say that I’m a fan! It feels very moisturizing on the skin, and it feels super fresh too. One main difference between this and other water gels I've tried is that it does not leave a sheen on the skin. It fully absorbs into the skin quickly, and my skin feels super quenched after using this.

I quite like the scent (though it fades after application). After a few weeks of trying this out, I did notice that my skin looked slightly better and that it looked quite bright. Combined with the previous calendula trio, all 4 products moisturize my skin very well and work to help fade my acne scars. I did not break out at all while using this, and I think it has a bit of skin cooling properties as well. I brought this with me to Bali, and after long days of staying under the sun, this made my skin feel super soothed and relaxed at the end of the day/

WILL I REPURCHASE
After trying out the deluxe size, I'm even more convinced to get the full size! I admit the price is not for everybody, but with Kiehl's products, I feel like your money is always well spent.

And that's it for this post! If you're interested in seeing how the product performs, remember to check out my video:
