Oriental Residence Bangkok • Review & Experience

December 28, 2018 Bangkok, Thailand

Hi guys, today I'll be sharing all about my luxurious 3-day 2-night stay at the Oriental Residence in Bangkok, Thailand!

Oriental Residence was where I stayed in Bangkok during my weekend Thailand staycation last September, and it was a truly luxurious and unforgettable experience. Although a lot of you guys were practically there with me via Instastory and got to see my experience live, today I'll be sharing more pics & details about my stay!

With world-class standards and the warmth of Asian hospitality, Oriental Residence Bangkok offers distinctive serviced residences. Featuring 145 lavish rooms and suites ideal for extended stays, a one Michelin-starred restaurant, a cafe, function rooms for meetings and weddings, ORB is your premier home away from home.

Located at the heart of Bangkok's shopping and embassy district on Wireless road, Oriental Residence's location is both convenient & accessible. It's 45 minutes away from Don Mueng International Airport by car, and my taxi ride from the airport to the residence (including toll) cost THB300.

It is also 45 minutes away by car from the Suvarnabhumi International Airport, and its very near the Phloen Chit BTS Station & Chit Lom BTS Station (my brother and I actually walked to the Phloen Chit BTS station and fount it a pretty easy walk).  If you don't like walking, ORB offers complimentary shuttle service to BTS Chidlom station as well.

There's a Family Mart and  a few banks right across the road from the residence too!

From my arrival at the gates to my stay at the room, everything felt super cosy and relaxed, nothing at all like what a normal hotel would feel like. Between the gate and the front door are lush trees & greenery, which reminded me a lot of those gardens in front of French mansions.

Aside from the residence itself, ORB houses Cafe Claire (their in-house cafe that serves breakfast, lunch, tea & dinner) and the one Michelin-starred Savelberg Thailand restaurant (located at the garden area).

Cars/taxies are allowed to enter and drop off guests at the front door instead of the gate, so you don't have to worry about walking/hauling your luggage with you.

We actually arrived at midnight, but there was still staff who welcomed us warmly and helped us carry our luggage, directing us to the reception for check-in. Once you step in, you're immediately welcomed by ORB's lavish decor and high ceilings.

At the time I didn't really notice how big and nice the reception area was, but come morning I was amazed by how light & bright it actually was!

Aside from the residences, you can access Cafe Claire & the private residences from the lobby. There are 46 private residential units located on the 22nd to 31st floor with an exclusive pool and sky terrace located on the 32nd floor.

I found the decor of the lobby to be very clean, posh and minimalist. To be honest, it looks like my dream mansion!

Beside the reception desk is the lounge area where you can chill and read magazines if you'd like. It was very cozy and resembled a living room more than a waiting area.

Decorated with white orchids & filled with lots of sunlight, it really did look like the interior of the perfect home.

We stayed at the Two Bedroom Suite which was a superbly luxurious suite (omg I'm getting excited just thinking about it again haha). I used my phone to take panoramic shots so I could capture the entire suite in all its glory, but unfortunately my phone got stolen a when I got back to Malaysia :( I do have a few more shots saved on my DSLR, but some of the suite shots I just grabbed off of ORB's site.

Lift & room access is by card, and you can easily request extras from the front desk.

There is a fully equipped kitchen with a full set of utensils & tools, as well as a fully stocked mini bar.

You can dine at the dining area, and you can take advantage of the coffee machine & their selection of TWG tea.

And beside the dining area is the living room, equipped with a TV, a media set, room service menu + ample plug points. By the way, there's also complimentary wifi on each floor.

Once you enter the suite, you'll be greeted by the kitchen & dining area. To the left will be the 2nd bedroom + the common bathroom, and straight on would be the master bedroom with the en-suite bathroom.

The 2nd bedroom has 2 beds and ample closet space, as well as a safe, plug points, a TV and more.

The master suite (which was my room) was a S T U N N I N G room that has an en-suite bathroom attached to it at the side:

as well as windows on both of the corner walls, letting light into the room and giving you a panoramic view of the city

You can order room service if you please, but you can also dine at the cafe downstairs or bring some food up if you prefer dining alone.

To answer that question in your head, yes, the bed was as comfy as it looks. I felt like I was sleeping on clouds!

Fit for a king, the bed in the master bedroom could easily fit 2-3 people, and I actually think the suite would be perfect for travelling families or groups of friends.

Room service was great, and the ladies who made our beds were bright and super friendly.

To me, the rooms and suites kind of give off a vintage 1900s vibe (the decor gives off that kind of feeling!)

Side note: for this trip I brought along a few fragrances, but I ended up mostly using my deluxe YSL Mon Paris Couture hahaha. It just smells too good!

Fully decked out in marble, the en-suite bathroom was definitly one of my fave rooms inside the entire suite.

Located at the side of the master bedroom, it comes fully equipped with bathrobes, toiletries, an amazing vanity mirror, a hairdryer and lots of towels. There's plently of light coming from the windows, but at night illuminated pretty well as well, making it perfect for doing when I did my morning and evening skincare routines.

The toilet is located beside the vanity:

And on the other side we hand an enclosed shower area with a rain shower head/handheld shower:

I think the highlight of the entire bathroom is the luxurious bathtub in the centre!

I spent an afternoon just chilling in the tub, and it was a pretty chill experience. Lush hadn't opened in Malaysia yet at the time so I didn't have any bath bombs with me, so I made a bubble bath with the bath gels in the room and they foamed up pretty well!

During the duration of our stay, we had breakfast at Cafe Claire, ORB's in-house cafe.

In the morning it can get pretty packed, so I suggest waking up early if you wanna get the seats by the window for picture purposes haha.

The breakfast selection is massive and ranges from bread, fruits & cereal to Asian delicacies like steamed buns, noodles & porridge. They also had fruit, bacon, rice and other dishes laid out for you to choose from!

Aside from what's out, Cafe Claire also offers a separate breakfast menu which you can order ala-carte from.

My brother and I were recommended the eggs benedict and the pancakes, and OMG we were totally not disappointed! The eggs were P E R F E C T, and I dare say it's one of the best eggs benedict I've had in a very long time.

My brother and I also feasted on their bacon, and we really enjoyed it hahaha. It's very rare for us to come across bacon in Malaysia, so we really ate our hearts out and went about our mornings with satisfied, fully-fed stomachs.

By the way, they also offer fresh coconuts!

If you're not staying in ORB, you can still drop by Cafe Claire and have breakfast! They allow walk-in customers, and even have a high-tea menu for the afternoon.

I mentioned earlier that ORB's lounge by the reception was like a living room, however, it's still pretty public. ORB has another lounge called the Oriental Bar, and it's a more private space where you can lounge around and relax.

They serve cocktails as well, so if you'd like a place to drink, they have a private bar just for you!

The area is very serene and private, and I think people who like to read would really love this space during the day

PS. The bar is located on the same floor as the function halls and meeting rooms. There was a wedding happening in the function room while I was at the bar, but it was still pretty quiet/not loud at all thanks to the walls & partitions.

There is a pool & gym open for guests on the 4th floor where you can swim or chill under the sun.

When you reach the 4th floor you'll first be greeted by a bar (in case you get hungry or thirsty), and I think they offer a very good selection of food and beverages to choose from.

The pool is a good size and has huts for private use. There's a roof on half of the pool, so in case it rains you can still go for a swim if you feel like it.

The shower rooms were no less luxurious as the bathrooms in our suite, and the gym is a good size and contains all the essentials for a basic morning workout.

So it all boils down to a simple question: why should you choose to stay in ORB while you're in Bangkok? I've covered a lot of their good points above that are sure to entice most of y'all, but let me share why I personally feel that you should choose ORB as your choice of residence as well.

First of all, the service is A M A Z I N G. From the moment I stepped through the entrance till the moment I checked out, everyone was friendly towards us, smiling all the way. From assistance with carrying our luggage, giving us recommendations on places to visit, helping us get hail a cab & recommending the cheapest method of transport to places we wanted to go to, the staff at ORB are incomparable to any other hotel or residence I've stayed at before. They felt so involved and we really felt like they wanted to make sure that our stay was amazing.

As you guys saw from the pictures above, the suite we stayed in was stunning, and it was super comfy as well. Although I came to Bangkok with the aim of visiting some touristy spots, I also came with the thought of relaxing & unwinding. The bathroom was definitely a fun way for me (and my brother lol) to unwind, and just chilling in the serene & plush room was heaven enough for someone like me who's always on the go back in KL. I really got to unwind and de-stress thanks to the luxurious room I stayed in. (It doesn't hurt that the suite is so pretty and instagrammable too!)

In terms of utilities & accessibility, ORB gets top marks from me. They have everything you could ever need, and for me, it was a nicely lit bathroom, lots of mirrors and super fast wifi. The only time we did call the front desk to request for something was when we ran out of shower gel (because I used it all in the bathtub for my bubble bath lol) and they replenished it pretty fast with no hassle.

Another highlight for me was the selection of food at Cafe Claire. The bacon was just zamazings, and their eggs benedict is to die for! Even if you decide not to stay in ORB I highly recommend dropping by Cafe Claire because their food is just that good!

The location of ORB itself was great & convenient since it was near the BTS + located in central Bangkok. We could visit all the cafes, temples and night markets easily within minutes, and we didn't really have to suffer much from the infamous Bangkok traffic jam

Price-wise, suites at ORB can range anywhere from THB5050 to THB14059 (excluding taxes & fees). It definitely isn't a budget-residence, but after experiencing staying there myself, I would say that the price is reasonable and worth it. It might be a bit steep if you stay here alone, but if you were to come with family or friends I think it would definitely be more worth it. If you're interested in checking out the prices, click here to check them out!

Bottom line: everything you need during your stay is in Oriental Residence Bangkok, from good service, good suites, good food to good location. It really is home away from home!
