THEFACESHOP Arsainte Eco-therapy Tonic with Essential & Moisturizer Review

October 19, 2018

Hi guys, today I'll be sharing all about THE FACE SHOP's Arsainte Eco-therapy line, as well as my review and experience using the Tonic with Essential & Moisturizer from that range!

So a few weeks ago, the lovely team at THE FACE SHOP Malaysia said that they will be bringing back their popular Arsainte Eco-therapy products here in Malaysia, and the products will have a new formulation! They reached out to me and asked if I would like to try them out, and since I wuite liked using their Damyang Bamboo Fresh Soothing Gel, I said yes. Just a disclaimer, although the products were sent to me, this review still contains my 100% honest thoughts and real experience.

Leggo!

WHAT IS IT?
There are three main things to know about this line: the main ingredient (bamboo) & the new formulation.

1. Baby Bamboo Extracts
The products from the Arsainte Eco-therapy line uses the power of baby bamboo extracts to give the skin pure moisture. THE FACE SHOP uses baby bamboo that is less than one year old, and this is because baby bamboo extracts have higher moisture & moisture retention qualities than fully grown bamboos. It also has excellent antioxidant effects that protect skin from external stimuli like city pollution, dust, etc.

Aside from being filled with antioxidants & being an anti-irritant + anti-inflammatory ingredient (making it perfect for people with acne skin like me by the way), bamboo is also packed with Silica which is essential in maintaining healthy skin. Silica itself is made up of Silicon and Oxygen, both of which contribute to gorgeous skin, luscious locks and all around health.

2. Upgraded eco-certified palm oil
I did some research and found that previously, the products from the Arsainte Eco-therapy line also contained palm oil. What's different this time around is that they have increased the amount of golden palm oil inside the product by 100%, meaning there's now 2x more oil in it.

The Arsainte Eco-therapy Tonic with Essential is a dermatologically tested shaking-type essential tonic, It promises smooth application and absorbs into the skin without any stickiness, leaving the skin moisturized.

The Arsainte Eco-Therapy Moisturizer is a moisturizer that increases the skin's suppleness by delivering hydration deep down into the skin. Aside from the bamboo extracts + golden palm oil, it also contains Shea butter.

WHERE TO BUY
These products are exclusive to THE FACE SHOP's E-store here in Malaysia, meaning you cannot get them in physical stores (only online). The Arsainte Eco-Therapy Tonic With Essential retails for RM83 (215ml):

while the Arsainte Eco-Therapy Moisturizer retails for RM63 (RM125):

I think the price is very reasonable, because 215ml for less than RM100?? That's already quite a steal! And RM63 for 125ml is actually super cheap, considering the brand & packaging (more on that later)

You can also get both the tonic & moisturizer for even cheaper as a set for RM102.20 instead of RM146, which is 30% OFF the original price. You'll also get a free eco-bag if you get the set!

PACKAGING
Both the tonic and the moisturizer comes packaged in a light green box:

And both come in a glass pump bottle. Both of them also come with a cover for their pumps!

I quite like that the tonic's glass bottle is transparent because you can see if the oil and bamboo water has been shaken properly before dispensing:

I'm not that thrilled that the moisturizer's glass bottle isn't transparent, but aside from that, I don't have any complaints.

For the price point, I didn't expect them to put them in any fancy packaging, let alone glass! That's definitely a winning point for me.

INGREDIENTS
Both the toner and the moisturizer are formulated without paraben, ethanol, mineral oil, artificial pigment, raw animal ingredients, benzophenone & TEA.

I'm not sure if you're aware but the ingredients list of skincare/makeup products are usually listed in order of percentage. The higher it is on the list, the more of it there is in the product. The first ingredient of skincare products is usually water, but these two products actually have Bamboo extract as their first ingredient!

The Arsainte Eco-Therapy Tonic with Essential is 92.1% Bamboo extract, and that's crazy high! Its almost 100% just Bamboo water, that's how pure it is!

The Arsainte Eco-therapy Moisturizer, on the other hand, comprises of 73% Bamboo extracts, which is also very high!

I ran both products' ingredient list on Cosdna and they're mostly EWG green-level with a few specks of yellow here and there, meaning this product is very unlikely to irritate the skin.

I mentioned at the start of this post that these products contain oil. Oil may sound scary to some people (especially those with oily skin), but oil isn't actually bad. All facial oils are different, and you can use them to your advantage. The oil in these products (golden palm oil) is rich in unsaturated fatty acids (ω-3, 6, 9) and oil-soluble vitamin E (Tocopherol), and it helps to strengthen the skin's barrier, providing nutrition and helping to rejuvenate it.

TEXTURE & FRAGRANCE
Through the bottle, you can see that the tonic is separated into two layers: the oil and the water:

You're supposed to shake it before dispersing any product out, and here's what the mixture looks light green/almost transparent in colour. It's a very light, watery toner and it smells slightly floral/fresh. It doesn't feel sticky and I've tried patting it into my skin like an essence as well.

As for the moisturizer, as I said you can't really see it though the bottle:

It's more of a milk/emulsion, and the product is very runny. Its more of a thin milk and has the same scent as the tonic. It also feels slightly cooling!

HOW TO USE
On the box, it says to use shake the tonic in an outward direction like a normal toner:

And it says to apply the moisturizer on toned skin:

Since I'm in the office more often (lol) I left this on my desk and use it for when I do my afternoon skincare routine. Sometimes when I wake up late (which is most of the time lol) I'll just take a quick shower and use this duo at work (after cleansing of course). I usually use the tonic as an essence and finish up with a sunblock as well.

MY REVIEW & VERDICT
The things that I don't like in morning skincare products are heavy scents + stickiness, and I'm glad to report that these two products are neither super strong smelling nor sticky at all. They're actually quite nice to use in the morning because the faint scent is nice + the cooling effect of the moisturizer really helps wake me up. Even using the tonic as an essence and patting it in is kinda cooling as well!

It terms of how the tonic worked on my oily/acne-prone skin, I think it did an okay job. Would I recommend this to someone who's looking for a toner than can help with acne? I would only say yes if you're acne is very little. If you're acne is more severe, I recommend going for an AHA/BHA toner instead.

That said, I recommend this toner if you have okay skin (like me at the moment) and you want a toner that will hydrate and soothe your skin so that it's calm and not irritated. It's more for hydrating, and I notice that my skin feels kinda smoother and softer after using this. The smoothness is very apparent after just using the tonic, and it's prolonged when you layer the moisturizer on top!

As I mentioned, the moisturizer was kinda cooling, and I really like that. What surprised me the most is its runny/milky and how light it is! I've used a couple of emulsions before and although I liked all of them, they were all so much thicker than this one. I was really trying to understand, like, why is this so thin yet so nice and moisturizing??

The product absorbs into my skin really fast, and it really does soften and plump the skin (I can feel the coolness/moisture more on my cheeks). On days when I use this moisturzier, I skip primer because I find that my skin is smooth enough already.

After a full day's wear I also found that I didn't look greasy/too oily. The finish after using both products isn't matte, but it isn't full on dewy as well. It's a nice healthy glow which isn't sticky, and I find that it looks nice + feels comfy + lightweight on my skin.

Overall my experience is very good, and the products did what they said they were gonna do. I did Wayskin readings as well, and while my skin's moisture level was at 98% in the morning, my 7pm reading was still at 76% which is pretty good for 9 hours without misting/reapplying moisturizer + working in an air-con office.

WILL I REPURCHASE
Both these products worked well for me, and I don't think I'll be running out of them soon. The tonic is super big + you only really need a bit of the moisturizer to cover your face, so I think both of them will be my office skincare products for a while.

Once I do run out, I think I'll defintely consider repurchasing both of these as well as they're quite an affordable duo! For RM100+, you get quality products + quality ingredients + quality packaging, and I can't really ask anything more than that.

Aaaaaand that was it for this post! I hope you found my experience with these products helpful and informative 💕
