Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence Review

October 9, 2018

Hi guys, today I'll be sharing my review of Klairs' Soft Airy UV Essence!

This is the latest addition to Klairs' Freshly Juiced line, and it's meant to be a companion to their Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop and Vitamin E Mask. I actually reviewed both those products before, so if you're interested in reading what I think about both of them, click here!

Ever since I started my skincare journey, I've always had a thing for brightening and vitamin C products. Vitamin C, however, should not be exposed to the sun because it might end up reacting with the sun or even darkening your skin some more. In the past few years, there have been some people saying that that's not true and that vitamin C serums can be worn out in the sun, but personally, for me, I'd just rather be safe than sorry. Even if the whole thing turns out to be a myth, at least I'm protected. Plus, sun damage is the number 1 cause of ageing, and I wanna stay forever young!

Anyways, why I brought that up is because when I got my hands on the Freshly Juiced serum + mask, I actually thought "It would be great to have a sunblock to accompany this". Lo and behold, Klairs heard my prayers and actually did release one! I always say that I'm a fan of Klairs because they don't release products to sell, they release products to meet people's needs.

Without any more babbling, let's get on with the review!

WHAT IS IT
The Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence SPF 50 PA++++ is an everyday sun protector for sensitive skin. It's water-based and has a gel-type texture to give a soft weightless and light finish. With SPF 50 PA++++, it guards the skin against UVA & UVB without leaving any greasiness or white cast.

Its main claims on Wishtrend's website aside from UV Protection are that it delays ageing, it has a non-sticky formula, it does not form any white cast, it's sensitive skin friendly and that it comes in a bigger size compared to other sunblocks in the K-beauty market.

WHERE TO BUY
It normally costs USD23 on Wishtrend.com, but since they're currently having a Vegan sale, it only costs USD20.70 (more about the sale at the end of this post!). You also have the option of getting it with the serum and mask at a special price.

PACKAGING
Like the first two products, it comes in a gorgeous minimalist hologram box:

This range's box packaging is actually one of my faves haha, it's so instagrammable!

It comes with 80ml worth of product, and I think that's actually pretty big. If you compare it to Missha's Soft Finish Sun Milk (50ml/70ml), Anessa's Perfect UV Sunscreen Milk (20ml), Biore's UV Aqua Rich Water Essence (50g) or Etude House's Sunprise sunblocks (50g), it's definitely bigger.

The product is easily dispensable via the tube and the nozzle comes sealed when you first get it.

INGREDIENTS
A quick glance at its ingredients show that all its ingredients have an EWG green level rating:

It's paraben free, sulfate free, silicone free, alcohol-free, EU allergen-free and is fungal acne safe. It shares the same brightening and anti-ageing ingredients as the other Freshly Juiced products like Niacinamide, Adenosine and Tocopherol, but also contains Sea Buckthorn Oil (which is K-beauty's current preference when it comes to vitamin C).

People with dry skin will really enjoy this because it contains highly hydrating ingredients such as Panthenol, Beta-Glucan, Butylene Glycol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Glycerin & Tocopherol. All pretty basic, but it also contains Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil, and it's actually the first time I've come across this ingredient. Its supposed to soothe skin sensitivity and increase the skin's moisture content.

FRAGRANCE & TEXTURE
As mentioned, this sunblock is water-based and has a gel-type texture. I'm a fan of the texture because it's not milky thick or watery thin: it's just right. It has a slightly off white/yellow colour when you squeeze it out, but once it's spread out it's colourless and does not leave any white cast. In fact it absorbs very quickly and leaves a slightly dewy texture (if you apply it liberally).

The product itself smells very fresh and is similar to Kiehl's Calendula Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Mask, but after it absorbs into your skin it doesn't smell like anything.

HOW TO USE
According to Klairsm you should apply it liberally 15 minutes before stepping out into the sun. For me I use it as the last step of my morning skincare routine after moisturizing.

MY REVIEW & VERDICT
I brought this along on my Bangkok trip and since it was super sunny and hot while I was there, I feel like I really got to experience it + see it in action. Upon application, it's pretty cooling and refreshing on the skin, so that's a plus. As I mentioned it absorbs super quickly into the skin, and I find that it leaves a fresh, dewy finish. I don't mind it, and I actually think it looks nice. I didn't get sunburnt or anything at all which is great, and I also didn't feel any uncomfortable stickiness. It really is very airy and as I went about my day, it didn't feel like  I had anything on.

I used this on my arms as well just to see if it could double as a body sunblock, and it works amazing! Because its non-sticky, its perfect for everyday use. A little also goes a long way so I only have to use a bit to cover both my arms.

If you're someone who doesn't like stickiness and would like a comfortable, light sunblock, this would be perfect for you. The SPF is pretty high and it just overall feels amazing on the skin. Not only does it protect you from the sun, it also helps to hydrate your skin (and even contains brightening ingredients to even out your skin tone). Before this I was using Missha's Soft Finish Sun Milk, and although they have almost the same protection (Missha's only has three pluses), I prefer the Klairs one more. The Missha one I had was pretty drying on the skin and felt tightening. I was super aware that it was on my face/had applied it. With this, its literally as if there's nothing on my face.

WILL I REPURCHASE?
Defintiely! Although I'm not sure when I'll finish the big tube, I'll defintely be getting another one.

I mentioned above that Wishtrend is having a sale, and in my opnion it's one of their most meaningful! they actually highlighted all their vegan-friendly products and are offering them for up to 40% off! Not only is this product on sale, so are a lot of products from brands like Cosrx, I'm From, Skin & Lab, Chica-y-chico and ByWishtrend!

Use the code AFFVEGAN05 to get an extra 5% off your order!

And that's it for this post! I hope you found my review helpful and informative 💓

Thanks for reading through, see ya in the next one!
