Huxley Deluxe Collection; Extraordinary Review

February 7, 2018

Hi guys, today I'll be sharing about this ultra pretty set from Huxley called the Deluxe Collection; Extraordinary!

I like K-beauty brands, but and as a person who tries to be extra (both visually & aesthetically), I love it even more when K-brands go the extra mile with their promo pictures. I've only ever obsessed over 2 Korean brands' aesthetic before, and those are Etude House and Skinfood. I feel like Etude House's colourful aesthetic has a playful/fun vibe + glam feel, while Skinfood's aesthetic is more laidback/blogger style clean-ness. However, never in my wildest dreams did I think a brand like Huxley would exist!

Founded in 2015, they were definitely one of 2017's must-have brands. Their minimalist packaging + rave reviews online really made them highly coveted, and I must say I was one of the people who really wanted to try them out. They're quite up there in terms of price, so I think I would consider them on the same level as Laneige but below ultra-luxury brands like Sulwhasoo.

I don't know who did their branding but I hope that person got paid really well! Their images are seriously so good + they even have brand films! Here's what some of the content they made for their "Morocco", & "Dessert" themes.

Their philosophy is "Great things never came in comfort zones", and they aim to give everyone the chance to change their skin's future. The take inspiration from our environment and create products inspired by the thriving life and moisture of the deep sea, the perseverance of life in harsh deserts and lightness and resilience on life in dry areas like high mountains.

I tried my first Huxley product in October last year, and you can find my review of Huxley's Mask; Oil and Extract here.

Without further ado, let's me talk more about this set!

WHAT IS IT

Encased in a limited edition box, this set contains a pouch, 6 deluxe sized products + 1 full sized product. This product would be great for someone looking to try out Huxley products but does not want to buy the full sized products yet (as the price isn't really drugstore price/ultra cheap).

WHERE TO BUY

Huxley announced this set in November 2017 and I got mine from Stylekorean. It's still available on Stylekorean for $50, but I got it in December when it was on hot deal for only $29.99, can you believe it??!

The set price itself is already a steal considering individual full sized Huxley products' prices range from $30 to $50, but Stylekorean's reduction was simply too hard to resist! You get 7 items in the set (+ 1 pouch), so if you divide $29.99 by 7, each piece only costs $4.28 (~RM16) which is cheap!

PACKAGING

Another contributing factor for me wanting to get this set was the photos that Huxley posted on their Instagram. Don't they just look immaculate? They have a muted/peachy rusticness to them, and although they're not bright and festive (red/green), they still screamed winter holidays.

Just to clarify, the set came to me bubble wrapped and in pristine condition. After unboxing my Stylekorean orders I put everything back into the box (sans bubble wrap) and brought it to Melaka. I couldn't take pictures of it in Melaka (because I was too busy) and when I went back to KL, I realized I forgot it. I asked my mum to post it to my office, and when it arrived it was already wrinkled & torn 😭 so it's all my fault. Lesson learned: when you get something, try to take pictures as soon as possible!

Anyhoo' here's what the front and side of the box look like (I love the gray & pink + the muted feels that it gives off):

When you open the box, you get the pouch on the left and the products on the right:

Behind the pouch is a square piece of paper with the details of each product as well as their sizes:

CONTENTS

The products were pretty easy to get out of the box (but I really don't know how it tore hahaha).

In total there are 6 skincare products and 1 hand cream included:

1. HAND CREAM ; VELVET TOUCH (30ml)
Infused with Prickly Pear Seed Oil, this anti-aging and cream invites you to enjoy HUXLEY's signature scent and leaves dry hands soft and smooth.

2. CLEANSING WATER ; BE CLEAN, BE MOIST (30ml)
A hydrating, antioxidant-powered cleansing water that sweeps makeup, debris, and sebum away from the skin effortlessly. Enriched with Cactus Extract, a potent source of age-defying antioxidants, this cleansing water reveals more radiant skin.

3. CLEANSING GEL ; BE CLEAN, BE MOIST (30ml)
An ultra-gentle SLS- free cleansing gel that melts impurities and makeup from the skin. Formulated with antioxidant-rich Cactus Extract and Prickly Pear Seed Oil to moisturize, nourish and calm the skin while delivering a thorough cleanse.

4. TONER ; EXTRACT IT (30ml)
Formulated with over 90% naturally derived ingredients, this toner is packed with Cactus Extract. This pH balancing toner helps to restore and improve skin's natural protective barrier, enhancing absorption of ant skin care treatments layered on top while also strengthening and softening skin.

5. SCRUB MASK ; SWEET THERAPY (30g)
A scrub and mask hybrid that both exfoliates and hydrates the skin. This luxurious formula is infused with skin-softening Prickly Pear Seed Oil and sugar to simultaneously treat and nourish skin while sloughing away dead skin for a silky smooth radiant complexion.

6. HEALING MASK ; KEEP CALM (30g)
This deeply nourishing and calming mask is infused with antioxidant-rich Cactus Extract to fight free radicals and repair dull skin. The mask's unique cactus jelly texture wraps the skin to hydrate renew and deeply soothe skin.

7. SLEEP MASK ; GOOD NIGHT (30g)
Aultra-nourishing sleeping mask to renew skin by morning. Peony and Sage extracts calm and brighten while antioxidant-rich Prickly Pear Seed Oil deeply hydrates and plumpls the skin, revealing a more youthful, supple, radiant appearance.

All of them have 30g/30ml, and all of them are deluxe sized (except for the hand cream, 30g is full sized).

On the other side of the box is the POUCH ; TENDER CREASE. Although I like it (especially the gold detailing), to be honest only the 6 skincare products can fit in the pouch. The hand cream is too big and the zip cannot be closed if you include it in.

MY THOUGHTS

1. HAND CREAM ; VELVET TOUCH  My Rating: ★★★★☆
This hand cream has a super velvety texture and it really smells like fresh roses. I've bought roses lots of times for props, and it literally smells like how roses smell straight from the florist' shop. I'm not a super big fan of rose scents, and I initially thought that this was a bit too "raw" for me. I used it in moderation and found that if I only use I bit, I don't mind it that much. It doesn't feel oily and the scent lasted for quite a few hours! I applied it once during lunch and when I got home (and started rolling on my bed), there was still a faint rose scent on my hands.

After the hand cream are the three cleansers:

2. CLEANSING WATER ; BE CLEAN, BE MOIST  My Rating: ★★★☆☆
This cleansing water smelled like Huxley's signature rose-y scent but tamer/ milder. I had to use 5 pads to remove a full face of makeup and to be honest, I wasn't really that impressed with this cleansing water. It felt nice but the makeup removal properties for me were just...meh. I used it as a toner/essence and I felt that it was so-so too. Sorry but this one's a miss for me. Not bad, just basic.

3. CLEANSING GEL ; BE CLEAN, BE MOIST  My Rating: ★★★★★
This is a gel type cleanser that lathers with water, and compared to other gel cleansers that I've tried over the years, this one feels thicker and richer. It also has that faint signature rose-y scent, and I loved it as soon as it touched my face. It thoroughly cleansed my face of all dirt + it made my skin feel super smooth! When I was rubbing it on I was like "what is this ultra smooth sensation?!". When I rinsed it off, I found out that it had made my skin super smooth (but not tight). Love it!

4. TONER ; EXTRACT IT  My Rating: ★★★★★
With the signature Huxley rose-y smell, this product is a lightweight toner that goes a long way. I only really use the tiniest amount on a cotton pad and it manages to tone my entire face. It's hydrating (but not plumping), and it also softened my face! Mind you, I tried these products out over the course of a few weeks, so I didn't use all of the Huxley products together. Unlike the cleansing water, I could feel a difference in my skin's texture and hydration with this toner!

Next are the three masks, and I love that Huxley gave 3 different types: a scrub, a wash off and a sleeping mask.

5. SCRUB MASK ; SWEET THERAPY  My Rating: ★★★★★★
Omg this mas is amazing and may even be my fave among all 3 masks! It is a scentless sugar/granule type of scrub, and I followed the instructions and exfoliated my face for 30 seconds and left in on for another 30 seconds before rinsing it off. When I washed it off, my face was as smooth as a baby's butt! Its super gentle and it doesnt feel as sharp as other sugar scrubs I've tried (like Skinfood's black sugar one). A little products went a long way, and a large pea sized amount was enough to scrub my entire face. P.S, not all the granules of the scrub dissolved completely (unlike other sugar scrubs), so it'm important to stop scrubbing after 30 seconds and not wait for it to be dissolved or anything. Totally fell in love with this and would 100% recommend it. I give it 6 stars out of 5!

6. HEALING MASK ; KEEP CALM  My Rating: ★★★★★
A wash off mask with a jelly texture, this mask has little to no scent and has a few seeds in it. I only need the littlest amount to cover my entire face with a thin layer. Its slightly sticky (but not really uncomfortable) and I left it on for 10 minutes as instructed. It wasn't as smoothening as the scrub but it was definitely softening! My skin also felt pretty plump after using this mask!

7. SLEEP MASK ; GOOD NIGHT  My Rating: ★★★★★
This sleeping mask had the faintest rose-y smell among all the products in this set. It's not at all stick and definitely felt lighter than a night cream. It absorbed really quickly into my skin, leaving a smooth, satin finish. I left it on and went to sleep, and when I woke up it felt exactly the same. Not oily at all + it didn't evaporate/get wiped away by my constant twisting and turning in bed. I washed it off with warm water and found my skin feeling great! Smooth, soft and hydrated.

WAS IT WORTH IT?

Overall, I think this was a pretty great set. I loved 6 out of the 7 products in it and it's not like I hated the cleansing water, I just found it basic/normal. I think this set was a really great way for me to try out their bestselling cleansing line + the masks without breaking the bank and getting 7 full sized products.

I went to Huxley's official website and found that you can actually get all 3 full sized masks in a set called the Spa Routine Trio. The set is currently not available on Stylekorean, but if you manage to come across it + any of the other masks (especially the scrub) please do get it. I promise you you won't regret it!

WILL I REPURCHASE

I would probably repurchase everything (if my bank account allows it lol) except for the cleansing water (cuz I have a ton of cleansing water now that I've yet to try out haha).

And that's it for this post! I hope you guys enjoyed reading about Huxley + my thoughts on their products + this set. I'm currently looking at getting some of their essences, so do stay tuned for more Huxley posts! In the meantime, if there's anything you'd like me to review, don't forget to comment it or message me on social media and I'll try to review it for you guys πŸ˜‰

As always, thank you guys so much for dropping by my blog and reading my posts. I'll see y'all in my next one!
