November 30, 2017

Hi guys, welcome back to my blog! Today's post will be about The Hilton Kuala Lumpur's Afternoon Tea Set.

When I turned 19 I celebrated my birthday with high tea in Winter Warmers in Penang, and I continued the tradition last year when I turned 20 in the Tiny Temptress and The Majestic Kuala Lumpur.

This year I wanted to keep the tradition going and have a high tea party with my friends and workmates. Unfortunately, I fell sick. I did have 4 cakes and I had Ddakgalbi with Anis and Dash on the actual day of my birthday, but it didn't really feel that festive.

My friend Caryn had been asking me for the longest time to go out with her for high tea, and I kinda felt guilty that I kept on delaying meeting up with her and canceled my birthday high tea plan last minute. As I recovered, I decided to have high tea with her before November ended. I searched high and low and settled for the Hilton Kuala Lumpur.

I didn't take a lot of shots of the place (lol) but basically, I crossed the link between Nu Sentral and Hilton/Le Meridian and found myself in the Hilton's lobby. Across the lobby is a marble staircase:

and across is the Lounge where high tea is served.

You can choose to be seated near the windows for nice pictures:

I suggest sitting at the end of the window like we did because you get light from outside and you can get a view + take pictures with the chandelier in the background.

Being a super anal person about my pics, I dropped by on Saturday to make a reservation and to personally select that area. There was no extra reservation fee and the staff was very friendly. Side note, before I dropped by Hilton, I dropped by Mandarin Oriental and asked about their tea set too. Just because I was dressed in a T-shirt, the person I spoke to was pretty weird and rude (like she didn't wanna talk to me). Anyhoo, Hilton was more hospitable with my inquiries and that was one of the main reasons why I chose them.

Afternoon Tea is available from 1pm to 5pm and costs RM198 for two people. There were three of us (Me, Caryn and my brother Euri), but they said that 3 people could share the set as well (meaning that they charge per set, not per head). You get 20% off the set if you have an HSBC, CIMB or Citibank card too.

They have a full menu for lunch, drink and dinner too. Here's their tea time and dessert menu:

From the afternoon tea menu I thought that they would give 1 piece per item like Majestic, but aside from the scones (which they gave 4), everything was in pairs! This means that there's more items in the set and sharing between 2 pax so much easier.

You can choose either have tea or coffee and we opted for tea. I forgot to take a snap of the tea selection (ahaha) but the set came with two pots of tea, so we had Darjeeling and Life & Beauty.

We started off with the 4 eclairs: the menu says that the flavours are Pandan, Gula Melaka, Durian and Caramelized Banana but I'm not sure if one of them was switched out for chocolate (see the 1st from the left).

Nonetheless, they were all excellent and my fave was the durian! not too strong and not too bland. It was perfect!

The scones were so-so. They weren't dry (thank goodness) but they weren't as buttery as I'd hope they would be. The jam was alright too~

The chicken tikka wrap, otak otak sandwich, turkey ham & cheese sandwich and chicken rendang puff were pretty filling:

The menu said otak otak sandwich but I'm not really sure if it was switched for a burger instead. Anyways, at first we noticed that Hilton's savory stuff was much less than Majestic's set, but we ended up full and stuffed anyway haha.

At the last tier, there were 6 pairs of sweets that we took our time to finish while chatting. The tiramisu cup was pretty nice but not really my cup of tea (I kinda had too much back in high school cuz my mum used to always make them haha). The cinnamon madeline was alright and the pistachio opera slice & flourless chocolate cake were divine. My fave out of the entire tier would have to be the mini raspberry breton followed by the mango white chocolate cake because they were sweet, tangy and just overall ZAMAZINGS.

Sorry that the pieces can't really be clearly seen!

We also ordered another baked cheese cake (RM33) and it was pretty good! Soft, creamy and kinda tangy too (which I loved!).

We stayed, chatted and chilled till around 6pm. Overall I really enjoyed spending time with both Caryn and my brother Euri. The ambiance was pretty nice: quiet with live jazz music.

I found it a bit warm when I first got there (because it was hot outside and I was wearing a sweater) but as I got settled in I got more comfortable.

Would I recommend The Hilton KL's Afternoon tea set? Definitely yes. The items were delicious and we were super full by the end of our chat.

Compared to Majestic's RM240 (Orchid Conservatory) and RM140 (Drawing Room), it has less savory stuff but more sweets and more items overall. I counted the items included in Majestic's set that I had previously and counted 20 items. Hilton's had 32. If you're looking for a more "regal" looking space and want to take nicer pictures I would recommend the Majestic, but if you want more sweet desserts + a comfier place to chat and chill (+ don't mind spending a bit more), I recommend the Hilton.

And that was it for my review of The Hilton KL's high tea set! After that, Euri, Caryn and I headed over to Gardens for dinner where we found an Instagrammable area to take pics in haha. Props again to my bro for taking such awesome shots! (Follow him on Instagram at @eyemonstahyuri!)
