Huey & Wah Cafe, Belissa Row, Pulau Tikus, Penang

May 20, 2016

Hello everyone! A few nights back, Bella, Kevin and our housemate Izudin had dinner together. Bella spotted this "marshmallow gourmet" place, and after a quick Google search we were sold! So today I'll be sharing the place with you guys.

Address: 36-1-14, Belissa Row, Burmah Road, 10350, Georgetown, Penang.

Opening Hours:
Monday to Friday: 8am - 8pm
Saturday & Sunday: 8am - 10pm
Opens Daily.

Contact Number: 604- 228 3962

The interior of the ground floor was quite chill and I feel the cafe would make for a great brunch place. There are more seats available upstairs and I feel like its cozier upstairs because of the beanbags and the decor. There are also a few zakka/homemade/recycled items on sale, as well as a book exchange corner. (Forgive a few of the pictures where my fingers are blocking the camera hahaha)

Huey & Wah serves mainly breakfast/brunch items on their menu (sandwiches, salads and baked eggs to name a few), but they also have a few pastas on their menu.

MENU

A selection of cakes and desserts are also available.

Huey & Wah is most known for their marshmallows. They have an assortment of flavours which can be bought separately in a bag, in a jar or with a beverage of your choice to accompany your meal.

They have samples available and I swear I wanted to eat all of the lemon marshmallow samples hahaha.

Without further ado, on with the food porn shots!

Tomato Sauce Spaghetti with Minced Chicken | RM18

I chose this pasta and it was actually a risk. I rarely trust tomato pastas that aren't by my mum, just because I feel like my mum's bolognese is the best (not lying). I was pleasantly surprised because aside from the sauce being perfect, the minced chicken complimented it excellently! It was cooked to perfection and portion wise, I was happy because I wasn't that hungry that night. I would rate it a solid 4.5/5!

White Sauce Spaghetti with Minced Chicken | RM18

Kevin had this pasta and he said that it was only so-so and that you can get better pasta elsewhere. I tried it as well and although its a white sauce pasta, it was quite dry for my taste. He said the price was okay-ish as well.

Pumpkin Sauce Spaghetti with Smoked Salmon | RM20

Bella had this pasta and according to her it had an egg yolk-like texture:  not to wet and not too dry. I tried it as well and it actually reminded me of the pumpkin puree I had at Bella's house when I visited last year. According to her the portion was a bit little (she wished she had more). As for the salmon, it was perfectly smoked. She gave it a rating of 4.8/5! She said it'd be a solid 5 if they increased the portion.

Chicken Salad | RM15

Izudin had the chicken salad and according to him, it was a miss. He compared it to Chili's chicken salad and said that Chili's was better. He found the portion too small for what it cost, but said that the dressing was nice.

Lemonade | RM8

I had a lemonade because I was quite thirsty and wanted to quench my thirst. It wasn't anything special and was actually quite bland/bitter rather than sour...

Signature Beverages with Marshmallows | RM6.50

(from left to right)
Milo w/ Salted Caramel
Milk w/ Salted Caramel and Chocolate
Milo w/ Stout & Salted Caramel

Bella, Kevin and Izudin had the signature beverage with the marshmallows and they had very positive feedback about it. Bella said that she recommends the beverage and would actually come back just to have it. Kevin said he liked hot drinks with the marshmallows as well.

DESERT

Carrot Cake | RM14/bar

This carrot cake was Kevin and Bella's choice of dessert. As you can see, it has a layer of marshmallows and frosting, which was kinda special. I tried it and the texture and taste of the carrots were subtle, but enough to not be overpowered by the frosting and the marshmallow. Bella said she found it a bit overpriced and dry, and that it would have been nicer if it was a bit more moist, while Kevin found the carrot cake overall quite special because they added marshmallows. She gave it a 3.7/5 and Kevin found it okay-ish.

Yellow Submarine | RM12/slice

I personally like lemon cakes and all things lemon, and I was not disappointed with this cake! It also had a layer of marshmallow in between (which gave it a nice chewy texture) and it blended perfectly with the sponge cake and the lemon frosting. I give it a solid 5 out of 5!

Mr Zebra | RM12/slice

This chocolate cake was Izudin's choice of dessert and also has a layer of marshmallow and covered in frosting. I tried it and it was so-so (my lemon cake was better hahaha). Contrary to the salad, Izudin said he liked the cake and that it was worth the money.

Bella also bought a few marshmallows and she was nice enough to share them with us. Out of all the flavours, the stout and lemon marshmallows were the best!

And that's it for this review! I recommend coming here for brunches or for light dinners. The marshmallows and the lemon cake are must-try items, and if you're a pasta person, give the tomato pasta a whirl! As Kevin told me, the concept of the cafe with the homemade stuff for sale was nice, as it added a unique charm to the place. Environment-wise, he rated it a 4.5/5 and I give it the same rating ^^

I usually take selfies whenever we go cafes but for some reason I forgot to take some that night, so here's a snap that I salvaged before we dug in:
