Tony Moly Tomatox Magic Whitening Massage Pack Review

December 17, 2015
Hello everyone! In this post, I'll be reviewing Tony Moly's Tomatox Magic Whitening Massage Pack!

If you're a fan of Korean skincare products and shop online frequently, you would have already seen and heard of this product. This product is actually quite popular because of its cute packaging and because of the effects it promises to bring.

Without further ado, on with the review!

*Disclaimer: I bought this product with my money and I was not paid to make this post. This is my honest opinion!*

WHAT IS IT?

I actually first saw this product being sold at the Sasa store in Ipoh. I asked what it was and the sales lady said it was a whitening mask. I didn't get to ask more about it, so I researched more about it at home.

It is basically a mask pack with fresh tomato extract and other natural ingredients. It claims to be able to massage the skin and has a skin clearing effect.

Now as a person with a more tanned complexion, I've been on the constant search for skin lightening products, as well as skin clearing products because of my  scars. This product claimed to be able to do both, so I thought, why not try it out?

When I went to the Tony Moly pop up store in Queensbay, I learned that  there was also and apple version which is a peeling cream.

And it can't hurt that Song Joong Ki was one of their spokespersons for this product!

Aside from skin clearing, it claims to be able to hydrate the skin, vitalize skin and help with collagen synthesis.

WHERE TO BUY?

I bought mine at Hermo.my (as always) for RM32, which, for 80g of product, is not bad I would say. I checked the Tony Moly store in Gurney Plaza and the product normally retails for RM61.90, so the one in Hermo costs half of its original price!

PACKAGING

The packaging is very cute as the tub is literally in the form of a tomato. I'm not a big fan of tubs, especially with creamy products because they tend to get stuck in my nails and I find the whole scooping with your hands thing unhygienic, but a scoop is provided for ease and hygiene, so I like that about this product.

INGREDIENTS

Aside from tomato extracts/lycopene, this product also contains lemon extracts and pure pearl powder.

Tomato extract or lycopene is known to be good to the skin as it helps with sun and UV protection. It enables the skin to take in oxygen, hence slowing down the aging process.

Lemons are rich in vitamin C and can help with fading acne scars and whitening.

Pearl powder acts as an antioxidant and contains many minerals that help replenish the skin's natural collagen.

TEXTURE AND FRAGRANCE

This product is white in colour and has a very creamy consistency. It spreads well and smells very pleasant. I wouldn't say that it smells like tomato though. After application it doesn't dry like normal clay masks do, but looks more like semi wet paint. I find this a lot more comfortable to work with.

HOW TO USE

Cleanser - Toner - Pack - Toner -Essence - Lotion - Acne Products - Serum - Moisturizer

On the back of the packaging, it says to apply it on your face and massage the cream for 1 to 2 minutes. Leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes and wash it off with water.

I usually wash my face with a cleanser and use toner before applying this. After washing the mask off, I use toner again just for double cleansing to make sure that I don't leave residue on my face.

MY REVIEW

As it says, this product is indeed creamy and I find that its easy to spread, but I also found that you need quite some product to be able to cover your face. I expected to only use one scoop put always end up using two to three generous scoops.

As for the effects, I didn't see and immediate whitening effect on my tan skin, and there was no dramatic change in skin tone after using it for a while as well. However, it did help with my skin condition. It managed to give me a balanced, even skin tone that looks healthy.

Nowadays, i treat this as a booster pack whenever I feel like my skin is tired and need some tomato goodness. My face doesn't feel dry after washing it off and I feel that it does help with revitalizing/detoxing the skin somehow.

MY VERDICT

This is a great pack that does deliver the goodness of tomato onto your skin. Although it didn't effectively whiten my skin or make it fairer, I've read online that other people have succeeded in getting whiter and fairer skin. I guess it varies from every person.

I did like the nice texture and the nice scent of the product. It also helped with cleansing my skin, hydrating it and revitalizing it with its tomato extract.

WILL I REPURCHASE?

Since it didn't have the desired whitening effect on me, I'll keep on using it until it finishes as a booster pack, but I probably won't buy it again and try other products.

    1. Hi Payanie, thanks for commenting! I know right, after reading so many reviews I was kinda disappointed that it didn't help whiten my skin. Oh well. Maybe you have any products you can recommend me? ^^
