Snail Mask Review | Bio-essence vs. Sister Diary

April 17, 2015

I was in Guardian and saw that there were a few promotions going on, so I decided to go have a look around. While I was at the mask section I came across the Sister Diary Mucin Peptide Mask. To be honest what interested me was that it came in a twin pack XD. As I was holding it, a saleslady informed me that Bio-essence was also having a promotion for their Snail Secretion Repair Mask. I didn't know which would be better so since both were having promotions, I decided to try both of them ^^

A little background information, snail essence has been garnering widespread attention for its healing properties, especially for acne, scar and burn healing. Snail mucus is also known to be very super moisturizing. Europeans have been using it for a very long time and Korean skincare companies have made various snail mucus products.

Before this little experiment of mine I personally did not have any experience with snail products before (or none that I know of). During my high school days one of the most popular products that I've seen going around was a product called Snail White. This product was very popular in both Thailand and Malaysia and I've seen a lot of good reviews about it. The only down side is that its very pricey, so that's the main reason why I never tried it.

i never got to try this cream although i really wanted to T.T

So, on with the reviews!

First I'll be trying out Bio-essence's Bio-energy Snail Secretion Repair Mask.

Price: RM6.88 (original price RM8.90)

Product description:
Bio-Energy Snail Secretion Repair Mask is enriched with snail secretion which is specifically treated with Bio-Energy Fluid. It's unique formulation ensures rapid absorption into skin for better efficacies. Snail secretion conists of Collagen, Allantoin, Vitamins A, C & E and other effective ingredients which replenish moisture, repair and firm skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles and restoring skin elasticity.

Product efficacies:
Rapidly absorbed by skin to provide deep hydration and prevent moisture loss.
Helps promotes skin renewal and reduce fine lines and wrinkles for a smooth, refined skin.
Replenishes collagen needed by skin, keeping skin supple and elastic.
Helps fade pimple scars and marks, enhancing skin repair system.
With anti-inflammatory property to relieve pimples, soothe skin and protect skin from harmful pollutants.

My experience:
Price wise, this mask isn't expensive but it's a bit pricier than other sheet masks in the market *usually sheet masks cost about RM3-5 here in Malaysia*. As with all sheet masks that I've bought before, before I used it I put it in the freezer for a few minutes (I kinda prefer my masks cold). As usual it froze a bit, but that usually happens to me but I can usually still unfold the mask without any problems. This mask however, was so thin that it tore so easily! I had to wait for a long time and i had to pry it open carefully. I somehow managed to do so after 5 minutes of prying. Other than that it was great. There was a lot of essence and it smell wasn't very strong at all.

Next I tried out Sister Diary's Mucin Peptide Mask.

Price: RM8.99 (for two sheets)

Product description:

Using unique technology derived snail's saliva which has amazing repairing effect, easily to be absorbed by skin. At the same time, intensively hydrating and moisturizing skin, enhance skin protective layer to reduce loss of moisture, leaves your skin supple. Consists of multi peptide that helps to uplift, hydrate, repair, whitening, pore minimizing and nourishes skin! Remove skin dullness, provide long lasting lock in moisture and hydrating effect, promote youthful and healthy skin.

*that wrong English tho lol*

My experience:
First, compared to the Bio-essence mask, this mask costs about RM2 more, but since it comes with two masks, each mask comes out at RM4.50 each, which is about the standard price of other sheet masks in the market. This mask is a tissue mask as well but its made of thicker material and its the type of mask where you have to peel it off of a metal foil. Overall the mask feels like its high quality stuff. It's almost scentless save for a very subtle scrent. Unlike other tissue masks I've tried, this mask doesn't have a lot of excess essence left in the pack, but it feels like the amount of essence is just right.

~o~

Comparison:

Between these two, I'd say that I would repurchase the Sister Diary Mucin Peptide Mask over the Bio Essence Snail Secretion Repair Mask. I feel that both are good masks, but I like Sister Diary's packaging, mask quality and price better. I saw a pack of 10 sheets going at RM40, which makes each sheet about RM4. I think I shall be buying that soon hahahaha.

I hope you enjoyed my thoughts on these two snail masks ^^ I've really heard a lot of good things about snail related products, so I'll be looking into buying more snail products. For now, bye! Thanks for reading and please look forward to my future posts!
